Mise En Scene
Personal Mise-en-Scene
Walking into my special room, one would notice in a corner a large brown square dog bed with puppy prints all over it. Next to the bed there is a brown rectangular wooden basket that contains all sorts of chew toys for a dog. From this section, a stranger would know that we have a large sized dog that is spoiled with tons of treats and toys to play with. The majority of the room is taken up by a tan microfiber couch, loveseat, and recliner. Each piece of furniture has a throw pillow and blanket on it. From this one might assume that in this house people enjoy relaxing on the couches and may even take a nap with a pillow and a blanket. The recliner has more spills and the color of the couch has faded. From this one may gather that the recliner is the favorite chair in the house. On one large low to the ground circle end table, there is a decoration that says “family.” Around this decoration is a bunch of different picture frames holding different pictures that include older people to young children. In the middle of the pictures is the biggest silver picture frame. In this frame, there is a young girl kissing a young male. From this a stranger could get the idea that family is important to this young couple that is in love and hope to have children one day. On another end table, there is a fake orange pumpkin with a purple hat that lights up. Next to the pumpkin is an old witch with a wart on her nose and her legs hang off the table. From this, one may assume that whoever lives here enjoys the holidays. On one wall, there is a flat screen TV. Underneath the TV, there are piles of movies that range from sports movies such as “Throwback” to children movies such as “Shrek.” From this one can assume that the owners of this house enjoy watching a variety of movies. The last end table is where one would find a pile of 6 textbooks- 2 education, 1 film study, 1 accounting, and 1 managerial book. At the sight of seeing all of these

When someone asks you what your favorite movie is, what goes through your mind? When someone asks me that question, I instantly think of specific scenes from my favorite film that induce a strong emotional response. This seems to happen when thinking about any movie I particularly like. What makes these scenes so memorable that they still emit those same emotions when just thinking about them? The answer is mise-en-scene – the visual story that is being told through setting, costumes and makeup, lighting, and staging. Bordwell and Thompson inform us, “Elements of mise-en-scene accentuate action and engage attention…Many of our most vivid memories of movies stem from mise-en-scene” (pg 112). The film Jurassic Park (1993) is a great example of how mise-en-scene can shape our experience of the film through specific components such as setting, lighting, and costuming.…

I will admit that I had to watch the movie Memento two times because I could not understand the numerous stories that Leonard had. This movie is a thriller with specific elements of mise-en-scene that go back in time to reveal and complete the main character Leonard to find the murderer of his wife. The staging supports the three different story times as the main character, Leonard, has been tattooing notes on his body and taking pictures with a camera so that he can remember everything that happens to him. and talking for Sammy who has the similar condition short-term memory. For instance, the mise-en-scene with the words tattooed on his arm saying "Never answer the phone" create a sense of worry and stress when the phone rings and he does not hang up. He starts to sweat and begins going back and forth in the room are a set design and play a role of undrestendin the condicion for no longer build new memories. The flashback makes the time frame to get to the point of tattoo and after related to the overall vision the shot go back to the story and cleared psychological thriller.…

Coming from the theatre, the term mise-en-scene refers to literally everything the audience gets to see when watching a film. It is the mixture of props, lighting conditions, the cast and the medium they develop their action in. It is all about creating a specific visual display the stories are going to take place in. Goodfellas (1990) presents a well-defined scheme in terms of mise-en-scene as it recreates the United States of the seventies: the american culture of the time is flawlessly portrayed by the use of all the tools we just mentioned. The actors play such an important role in the creation of this atmosphere (as well as their clothings), and it is not just their appearance but also the way the act and speak what makes Goodfellas such a reliable piece.…

Walking down the tree-lined driveway, trees planted by my parents when they first moved into our ranch-style house, the sight that greets me every day after school is a great comfort. In the summer, beautiful flowers, planted by my mother and I, decorate the planters in front of the house. At night, both the bay window in the living room and my bedroom window flicker welcomingly with twinkle lights and glisten with gel-clings that change based on the season. After school, the front door stands open in wait of my imminent return. Stepping through the door and kicking off my dirty shoes onto a shoe mat, the living room, newly renovated with a large, in-your-face entertainment center, soft couches that provide an excellent place for a nap, and a plush carpet that tickles bare feet in warm weather, waits. This room is one of my favorites, as it screams for visitors to sit, get comfortable, and stay for a while.…

So what does this special room look like? Well, it's quite big, but not too much. It's big enough to hold a double bed, which take up the back wall of the room. Opposite of the bed there is a dressing table with a large mirror. This is the place where I sit every morning to choose the clothes that I’m going to put that day. On the left of my room is full of ancient toys, games, clothes and books. My television and video recorder are on a table and I have a selection of my favourite videos in a wardrobe: Pretty Woman, Dirty Dancing... On the left hand of my bed, to the left of the door, I have my stereo. Also I have photos of my friends and family. These photos bring back memories of happy times spent.…

As soon as I open the main door, the first room I see is my family room, which stands for a bond of love. On holidays, all my family members get together and spend their free time in this room. On the walls of the family room, there are some pictures and a green tree, which has the names of all family members since many generations. While I’m in this room, I feel very protected and comfortable because when I’m alone, all I think of is my family members and things that they have done for me. There are two flower vases and few candles on the window. The room smells like roses and the protection of love. There is a chair placed in the front of the window, while I’m sitting on this chair, I wanted to talk to the four walls, like my family members talk to me when we sits together.…

The walls of my bedroom are unique. Two walls are painted a soft tan and the other two walls are a dark chocolate brown. The cream colored floor is fluffy and soft. The ceiling is white with a fan painted tan with a cheetah print accent. All four walls have rectangular shaped objects lined with photos of my friends and me. The return air vent near ceiling has dried roses suspended by string that no longer have a scent. They bring me memories of my grandmother that passed, I keep them there to have something to look at in remembrance of her. From the entrance of my room, there is a large open space covered by glass and blinds on the far left wall, from this part of my bedroom you are able to see activity through a large piece of glass.…

When you got into the house, the smell of Mexican food and cleaning products attacked your nostrils. The living room walls were made of this fake wood-looking stuff. It looked like a typical living room. It had two couches, a chair and a table in the middle of the room. The couches were a dark maroon color and the center table was glass with metal legs that were painted gold. The carpet was brown and the mixture of the walls, the furniture, and the carpet made the room pretty dark and a little chilly.…

    My dream house

My house is made of solid oak wood due to its heat gathering capabilities and it’s marvelous color which I really fancy myself with. The house itself has 3 levels with an additional attic and a basement. The first floor has a long corridor filled with paintings, not ordinary though, all of the paintings and the paint is only in the tone of gray without any other colors. The paintings in this corridor are all based on the early nineties and are also gray-toned. On this level there is an additional computer room filled with steam-punk equipment and a computer with 8 screens hanging on the wall forming a u-shape to grant the 3d effect. The second floor contains all the family floors like the dining room, the kitchen and the living room. The dining room will be separated from the living room, for most obvious reasons: Everyone values attention granted to them, and I don’t want a simple TV to separate family members from one another. The dining room, kitchen, living room, and a bathroom (which will also be there) represents one year season. The bathroom represents winter, dining room represents autumn, living room summer and kitchen spring. The last level consists of personal rooms that styles will be dependent by its inhabitants.…
