Minotar: The Myth Of Theseus
Minotaur is a half man half bull creature. “In the Egyptian religion, [Minotaur] was called Apis, a sacred bull that was regarded as the incarnation of their god Osiris or of Ptah” (Minotaur MythOrTruthCom). His parents were Queen Pasiphae and King Minos of Crete. Minos asked Poseidon, the god of the sea to send him a bull, which he promised to give up as an offering but when he saw the beautiful bull come out of the sea, he wanted it for himself. He gave up one of the best animals from his herd in order to keep the bull. This made Poseidon mad so he had Mino’s wife Pasiphae fall in love with the bull. She had an architect make a fake cow for her so she could fool the bull into making love with her. Minotaur lived his life in a labyrinth

Theseus met Princess Ariadne who wanted to help him get out of the labyrinth. Additionally, he would also be able to kill Minotaur. Theseus successfully killed Minotaur after following Princess Ariadne’s idea and was able to find his way out of the labyrinth with the help of Princess Ariadne’s thread he was given. Eventually Theseus married Princess Ariadne. “The myth of Theseus and the Minotaur has inspired numerous artists throughout the centuries, who have created paintings and sculptures dedicated to the myth and the hero of Athens” (The Myth of Theseus and the Minotaur). The Minotaur’s Greek name was Asterion, which means “the starry one”. He was featured in the first and last book Percy Jackson and the Olympians series written by Rick Riordan. The importance of the Minotaur in the books series is that, “He is also carrying an axe in The Last Olympian shaped like an Omega, the last letter of the Greek Alphabet. This could be a reference to the Minotaur being the beginning and the end” (Minotaur). Minotaur has been a cultural object for many artists who study mythology, is seen in movies, books, and sculptures and is still known by many people
