Middle School Classroom Observation
The first week in which I observed Mrs.Childs class I seen how her classroom environment is. The room in itself is very colorful, bright and exciting. It is a very welcoming space. Some of the ways that it is welcoming is her word wall, each letter with words is a different color, she displays work in which the students have successfully completed and would be a good example for other students to see, and one last way in which her classroom is welcoming is each student has a job, so everybody feels as if they are a part of the bigger system. The first grade classroom is majorly different than the middle school classroom. A few of the ways that is different is, the first grade classroom is very vibrant while the middle school classroom is very bland. The first grade classroom was colorful to invite the students and engage them into what is being taught; the middle school classroom was boring because they wanted the students to be focused and not distracted by all of the colors. Mrs.Childs promotes literacy in the classroom daily. She has a word wall posted to help students remember how to spell certain words that are hard for them to remember. While the children play at centers most of the games require reading, writing or spelling of some sort. Guided reading programs are used in the classroom at centers, as well, at the computer center. The students listen to a book about animals being read and the program highlights the word that the recording is reading at that specific time. Children’s books are used across the curriculum to make sure students get the gist of what is being taught. One day the students went to the library and read a book and then they were asked questions about the book and the students hit the answers spot on, they told us the book was about “No matter how big your Christmas presents are what really matters is being around your family for the
