Microwave Design Chapter 1
CHAPTER I

Foreword to the Design
The Design of Point-to-Point Microwave Communications was created for the full understanding of the subject Wireless Communications. The students are expected to apply the lessons from their lecture and from their researches conducted for this study.
The researchers were asked to make a design of microwave link with a minimum of thirty kilometers distance between the transmitter and receiver. The sites chosen to be wirelessly connected are Timberland Sports and Nature Club in San Mateo, Rizal and the Marketing Office of Filinvest Land Inc., in Alabang, Muntinlupa. Timberland Sports and Nature Club (TSNC) belongs to the Filinvest Land Inc. (FLI). One of FLI’s main offices is located in Alabang which is approximately thirty kilometers away from TSNC in San Mateo. The designers were able to determine the distances, geographical coordinates, ground elevation, obstruction, climate and other factors that must be considered. More information was collected to build a more comprehensive document for the readers. Tables and graphs for the related data and computations are provided to make a clearer presentation.

Introduction to the Site
In every organization, transfer speed of information is very vital in the operation. If their information is fast, more work can be done and more objectives will be met. However, if data transmission is slow, less tasks can be accomplished and more time will be wasted.

In a company with different branches, distance will be a problem for data transmission. Without any direct connections, it will be very difficult to share information between branches.
Filinvest Land, Inc. (FLI), a subsidiary of Filinvest Development Group, is one of the leading real estate developers in the Philippines. Timberland Sports and Nature Club (TSNC), a world-class, exclusive membership country club is one of the project of FLI. It is located in the highest crest of Timberland Heights, San Mateo Rizal. With its height

For a while in the past, we refer the wireless technology as cellular phones. But now, the term "wireless" refers to more varied devices & technologies, like smartphones, computers, printers, headphones and even speakers that connects together in different ways. Today’s wireless phones for example, may include data packets like 3G & 4G cellular radio signals, Wi-Fi and even Bluetooth technologies, these technologies have advance in a fast pace that investing in equipment like 4G phone and/or 802.11x wireless routers can offer you & your business a variety of speed improvements for your money. Now I shall describe the characteristics of every type of wireless signal types so we can learn to use every signal type.…

¶Technological developments provide companies the ability to communicate efficiently with remote locations, both domestic and internationally. Effective organizational communication must provide the ability to reduce the distance between people, increase timeliness of interactions, and provide a medium that efficiently transfers knowledge (Javaligi, Radulovich, Pendleton, & Scherer, 2005). However, communication efforts must align with corporate goals and global efforts to maximize benefits from accepting risk associated with expansion efforts (Ernst & Young, 2006).…

The technology in which the parameters such as amplitude, phase and frequency of radio frequency waves are changed so as to transmit and receive the information is known as RF technology or radio frequency technology. In this, the electromagnetic waves that lie in the range of 3 khz to 300 Ghz are used for the wireless communication between the two devices. The signal is modulated at the transmitter end and then the antenna converts this electrical signal into the radio waves and emits them. The medium in which they travel is space. The receiving antenna catches the waves at the receiving end and then the signal is demodulated and converted back to its original form. These waves are highly affected by the interference…

The first type of wireless radio wave transmission to describe in this paper is 802.11B. The 802.11B was an amendment to the original 802.11 standard released in because the original did not have fast enough speeds to be sufficient to support the needs that the technology required. 802.11B added speeds of 5.5 and 11 Mbps. The 802.11B standard also supports wireless devices that are up…

The existing IT architecture and infrastructure is decentralized and inefficient. In fact, The Company is still using paper as means of transporting data from department to department. In addition to centralizing IT systems, The Company should add new modules to their existing system (POS, MIS, DDS, Reservation Interface, etc.) and upgrade their existing CLS system in order to promote two-way communication, and free flow of data. In doing this, The Company will move the IT strategy from that of a support function to a more aggressive, competitive function.…

A LAN setup with routers and Ethernet cables would be the choice. This is a reasonable option because the speeds of the network will be noticeably greater and accordingly will result in a lesser amount of cost. Other three locations are the distribution offices which are located in Chicago, Phoenix, and New York. Satellite communication would be the chosen type of connection to the headquarters building. The last department is the plant facility which is located in China. For this, building satellite as well will be used to communicate to the headquarters network. On a general note, all location should be interconnected which allows function flow between each other. This allows uncomplicated communication to be accomplished for particular needs, for orders and production. Additionally, it decreases inadequate communication which occurs in delivering messages.…

An antenna for a wireless sensor network for trains is designed and built. The network will monitor temperature and vibrations of the wheel bearings on the train wagons. Doing this will allow for an earlier detection of damaged wheels, which will ease planning of maintenance and reduce wear on the rails considerably. The requirement of the system is that it is to be installed without any cables attached to the sensor nodes. This calls for wireless communication, and that for that antennas are needed. A train is a difficult environment to transmit electromagnetic (EM) waves in. It is full of metal and EM-waves cannot pass through a conducting material. Having much metal in its vicinity also affects the function of the antenna. This needs to be taken into consideration when making the design. The constructed antenna is a small dual-layer patch antenna. Dual layer means that it is constructed out of two sheets known as substrates of isolating material with different characteristics. The lower one of these substrates is made in such a way that integration with a circuit board is possible. Such integration would reduce the production cost considerably. The antenna is designed for direct placement on a conducting surface. This surface could be part of the train. It uses the surrounding metal as a ground plane in order to reduce its size. The result is a small patch antenna with good radiation qualities in metallic surroundings. The longest side is 18.35 mm, equaling 14.9 % of the wavelength that the antenna…

AIM :- To study wave guide components. APPARATUS REQUIRED :- Flanges, Twisted wave guide, wave guide tees, Directional Coupler, Attenuator, Isolators, Circulators, Matched terminator, Slide screw tuner, Slotted Section, Tunable probe, Horn antennas, Movable Short, Detector mount. THEORY:- A pipe with any sort of cross- section that could be used as a wave guide or system of conductors for carrying electromagnetic wave, is called a wave guide in which the waves are truly guided. (1) FLANGES :- Flange are used to couple sections of wave guide components. These flanges are designed to have not only mechanical strength but also desirable electric characteristics. (2) TWISTED WAVEGUIDE :- If a change in polarization direction is required, twisted section may be used. It is also called rotator. (3) WAVE GUIDE TEE :- Tees are junctions which are required to combine or split two signals in a wave guide. Different type of tees are :(a) H - PLANE TEE :- All the arm of the H- plane Tee lies in the plane of the magnetic field which divide among the arm . This is thus a current or parallel junction. (b) E- PLANE TEE : - It lies in the plane of electric field . It is voltage or series junction. In this signal is divided in to two parts having same magnitude but in opposite phase. (c) MAGIC TEE :- If another arm is added to either of the T-junction. Then a hybrid T-junction or magic tee is obtained. The arm three or four is connected to arm 1&2 but not to each other. (4) DIRECTION COUPLER :- The power delivered to a load or an antenna can be measured using sampling technique in which a known fraction of the power is measured so that the total may be calculated. A number of coupling units used for such purpose are known as directional coupler. (5) ATTENUATORS :- It consist of a resistive wane inside the wave guide to absorb microwave power according to its position w.r.t side wall of the wave guide. Attenuation will be maximum if the wane is placed at center. (a)…
