Is another form of structural configuration better suited to multiproduct, multiservice companies? I do not believe so. As stated on our textbook, “Organizations exist for a purpose.” Further, their design considerations “seek to create organizations that are both efficient and effective” (Baack, Minnick, & Reilly, 2014)With multiproduct, multiservice companies there are many more moving parts, meaning more room for error. All the moving parts must work together, as parts of an engine. A design flaw in one division could affect other divisions, and eventually the entire company. Organizational design must be carefully thought out and planned before executed. Even then, things should be carefully monitored to work out any kinks.
If not, is there a form of departmentalization for multiproduct, multiservice companies which would match somewhat the divisional structure configuration? Along with our textbook, multiproduct companies departmentalize by product. This means that the company has a head, the president, and then each department under the president has its own vice president, and so on. Having this type of design ensures that each department is responsible for the quality and integrity of their product, yet all products made by the company are responsible for its success (Baack, Minnick, & Reilly, 2014)
Explain how the following somewhat match each other:
• Functional structure with simple structure: A simple structure goes with a company with a small design, such as small entrepreneurs who specialize in a certain service. These companies have few staff and usually one or a certain line of product and need little dividing. Their biggest concern will be function.
• Divisional structure with departmentalization by product: Divisional structure allows for quality control and close monitoring of product within a department without being overwhelmed by overall company function and goals.
• Machine bureaucracy with centralized, mechanistic structure: The
