February 14, 2012 Mead essay Have you ever been more admired at a person who lives far from you than a person who is close to you? I tend to agree with Margaret Mead’s analysis in several ways .The three different ideas why I agree with her analysis are when a person lives far away, people believe in different ways, and I won’t care as much. Those are my reasons why I agree with her analysis. The first reason why I agree with the analysis is because the person who had a great success lives far away from me. If that person lives far away I would be happy for them because they wouldn’t live near me, if they did I wouldn’t celebrate because he would be a friend and I would get mad. For example if my friend had won a lottery and I found out, I would feel sad because I haven’t won and he is near me. The person who lives far away would have a different effect on me like I explained and I would celebrate. The second reason why I agree is because people like me believe in different things. The second reason why I agree with the analysis is because I believe that my friends shouldn’t deserve what they earn. For example if my friend is bad and he won something I would feel mad. He wouldn’t deserve it because he misbehaves and is a bad person. If I tried winning something and I failed I would feel sad because I am a good person. I believe only people who get stuff or win stuff or earn stuff should only get it if they behave and follow rules and are good people. The third reason why I believe is because I wouldn’t care as much. The third reason why I agree is because I wouldn’t care as much. If I was in the situation that someone in my school had won two free prom tickets I would care because those are important to me and I wouldn’t celebrate. I wouldn’t celebrate because the prom tickets were meant for me and the girl I would be taking. If I found out that some other school like Rancho Verde High School there was a winner of two free prom tickets I would be happy for them because they would live further from where I live. That is my final reason why I agree with the text. Have you ever been more admired at a person who lives far from you than a person who is close to you? That is why I would be more admired at a person who lives far from me than a person who is close to me. That is also why I agree with her analysis because people believe in many ways. The last reason is because I won’t care as much. Clearly those are the reason why I agree with her analysis.

First of all, it doesn't make sense for only some of us donating or giving away our money just to save a life of kids we will never meet. Second, after all of this is over with how does one know if the money we worked hard for ourselves, will even go towards the kids to save their life and not Peter Singer himself. For example, in paragraph 3, he states "Donated to one of a number of charitable agencies, that money could mean the difference between life and death for children in need." An argument one would say, even if we donate money how do we know it will be going towards the kids in need and not someone else. Also donating money is fine, one agrees to help them out even for a little bit, but not giving all the money we worked hard to get and not spending any on us or even saving for emergencies. So how is one suppose to know that if one gives up their hard earned money savings, that it will go straight to the kids in need and its not just a joke. Singer expects one to just donate every single dollar one has and give it away to help the innocent kids, that they don't know. It doesn't make sense, like why does one have to listen to Peter and say yes and have to give up the money they have saved up. It is often noticed that people with a higher income live a more relaxed life while the truth of the matter is their money allows them to easily take care of the necessities in life such as food and clothing that other people may not be able to maintain. Having more money provides relief for the person rather than happiness because of their ability to obtain new possessions. Giving is better than receiving is a commonly used phrase that shows the generosity among different people; however, when it used as an argument debating happiness, it is proven to be too vague to fit the modern day definition. Their argument demonstrates that putting their money towards other people rather than themselves brings an even greater joy, but how does that differ from paying taxes? Taxes are provided for many reasons such as donating to shelters, paying for government workers, and maintaining roads, so why are the citizens upset about the requirement of investing a portion of their income to the government when the investment in others brings happiness? Consequently, the satisfaction of giving money to others does not always apply to all even if it is for charities. Because happiness is based on an individual’s perspective, a person’s outlook on what makes them happy may vary from someone else’s. Happiness is something compared to everyone else; some people appear happier than others.
