It was an amazing feeling to give to the community in that way. I was selected as the master of ceremony for our yearly Veterans Day Assembly this year also. It was an honor to be able to lead the assembly and make sure that the veterans were honored for their true acts of bravery. Also through National Honor Society, I planned a Red Out at a basketball game, a Cardiac Ball, and a 3-on-3 tournament in order to spread awareness and collect donations for the American Heart Association. We ended up raising 2,000 dollars for such a great cause!

What other volunteer work have you done in the community (may or may not be affiliated with the National Honor Society)? A lot of my volunteer work has been through National Honor Society: the Red Out Events, the canned food drive, working at the Snack Shack during the summer, etc. National Honor Society is great because of all of the volunteer work that is available to you. Aside from National Honor Society, I have volunteered for Girl Scouts, the Christmas Festival, and the Junior Classic for the past four years!

Volunteer organizations I have been a part of are the Night in the Country Volunteer parking. My duties involved taking a paint marker and tagging the cars with their campsite number so they knew where to park their trailers and or trucks. I also had to do my best to answer any questions that people had on where certain places were. The second organization I have participated in is the Vineyard Fellowship Night of Lights. This event took place on Halloween night so I had to dress up in a costume. I had to operate a game booth such as fishing for candy and musical chairs. Finally the last organization I was a part of was the Vineyard Fellowship Community Christmas Dinner. For this event I had to help set everything up and prepare the food the…

Service is one pillar of the national honors society that I believe a lot in. I believe that service presents so many opportunities and is such a meaningful way for one to spend their time. During my years at Barrington High School thus far, I have participated in many service projects including packing school supplies for children in foster care, collecting money at ALS tag days, and working with children with disabilities in a horseback riding rehabilitation program. Every week I was excited to see the progress of the children I worked with as they grew through horseback riding, and I am proud to say I played a part in…

Throughout my time as a part of National Honor Society and the entirety of my high school career, service has been the most important part of my experience. I have been required to participate in a small amount of service, but I have never felt as if it was enough. Because of this, I volunteer for many hours that exceed my requirements to give back to my community as often as possible. In pursuit of this achievement, I have worked on a variety of projects such as food and coat drives, children’s events, and habitat restoration projects. Each of these has given me something to take away from the experience and apply to my own life. Yet, one particular project has always had the greatest emotional impact on my life. This experience is Kenny’s…
