Malcolm and Donalbain from Shakespeare’s play The Tragedy of Macbeth and Hannah Baker from Jay Asher’s novel Thirteen Reasons Why all run from fears and come about reactions unexpected. Malcolm and Donalbain flee the town after their father was killed in his sleep; their actions turn around to people blaming them of this tragic act. People go into the king’s chamber and find him dead. Once Malcolm and Donalbain get wind of the news they have a conversation about what they should do. Malcolm and Donalbain were discussing where to go and they think they should separate; “I’ll to England” (2.3.139). While Donalbain will go to a location father then Malcolm; “To Ireland, I” (2.3.140). There is a discussion after the brother leaves points fingers to them; “They were suborn’d: Malcolm and Donalbain, the king’s two sons, are stol’n away and fled; which puts upon them suspicion of the deed” (2.3.24-27). Hannah Baker runs from everyone and hides almost everything, then records her feelings and passes it on as she lay buried in the afterlife. Hannah tries to find help but since it doesn’t work she resorts to an unsuspected end. Her voice is heard over speakers in a garage stereo by Glen; “I hope you’re ready, because I’m about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended” (Asher7). Glen is on a tape, but he first has to hear all the other stories about why she ran from her life and ended it with her choice. All the people in her life connect to make it hard for her; “And when I say my final words…well, probably not my final words, but the last words on these tapes…it’s going to be one tight, well-connected, emotional ball of words” (Asher178). She goes to a guidance counselor at school and she ends up running down the hall after learning this life was too hard. Her tapes end with much emotion; “I think I’ve made myself very clear, but no one’s stepping forward to stop me.” Then she further elaborates; “A lot of you cared, just not enough. And
