Maus By Art Spiegelm Character Analysis
For my graphic novel, i chose to write and to draw about my father. He is not from the United states, he was born and raised in Mexico. My fathers name is Antonio Jaimes Hernandez, he has taught me many important things that I will continue to pass on to the future generations. I decided to make my graphic novel about his journey from Mexico to the United States, and how his life has transitioned from being in extreme poverty into living in a middle-class neighborhood, living comfortably. I chose to write about him because he has been a significant person in my life, and I wanted to know what he went through to really appreciate him being there for me. Throughout the process of this project, i have learned another perspective on life. Just like in Maus, by Art Spiegelman, Art learns about another perspective from the holocaust.
I feel as if it would have been easier if I had written this in a traditional text format. The reasoning behind this is because there are so many details my father gave me. My father explains it as if it happened yesterday, plus, there are many aspects to his story. He went through a mass of experiences I would not be able to handle, A specific tale he gave me was when he first got to the United States. Both offer different perspectives of significantly different experiences. My graphic story is about my father, Antonio Jaimes Hernandez, a man who has helped me throughout my whole life. My main purpose to write about him was that I wanted to learn what made my dad who he is today, and how he got to where he is now. This project made me realize that there are many more outlets than just traditional text format and has also helped me learn the many aspects of a graphic novel. If done correctly, a graphic novel format will be more dynamic, powerful, and visually pleasing than traditional text
