Mate: A Video Analysis
When looking at mate selection, I agree with Dr. Helen Fisher’s findings that attraction is one of the primary factors in mate selection (DNews, 2014). There is a reason that two complete strangers can come together in a room and end up intimate with each other whereas two other strangers can come together in a room and never see one other again. The video showed the chemical reaction we encounter during courtship (DNews, 2014), something our brains have been doing this since the dawn of mankind. When a person is looking for a mate they will encounter several potential perspectives until they find that one specific person they’re attracted to over anyone else. When investigating the different hormone types, I’ve assessed I’m estrogen/ oxytocin (Ghose, 2013). Based upon the way I address life, I feel it’s important for my mate to know. As a social person, I prefer to internal and recharge or deal with life in general. It’s important for my mate to know that is how I am, just as it is important for me to know how my mate is. Married for over 45 years, my dad is a go with the flow kind of guy; he’s quiet and just wants everyone to be happy. My mom held the power in our house and made the decisions. More energetic and on top of things. If I look at my siblings, my sister (the oldest with a different biological father) is testosterone heavy, and my brother and I are both estrogen/ oxytocin. It makes me wonder how much the father’s testosterone level contributes to an already higher mothers’ testosterone level; both positive and negative. Also, does hormone replacement therapy have any effect on the hormone types of future children born. During infertility treatments patients take hormones. Is it possible that a mother taking additional estrogen to aid in fertilization could heightening the level of estrogen/ oxytocin in an incubating
