Marvel Studios Graphic Identity
For this assignment, I chose to design a graphic identity for Marvel Studios, LLC; responsible for films based on characters from Marvel Comics, such as Iron Man, Captain America, and the Avengers. Having already experienced a few small, yet still significant alterations over the years, I took it upon myself to notice these varied changes, in relation towards how this once modest in-house studio has basically become its own veritable powerhouse of critical acclaim and commercial success. Taking this information into consideration, I hoped to be able to make solid claims regarding the studio’s future plans regarding their brand, especially given that their film slate will extend through to 2030, at least. As the executive decision was made …show more content…
For my first logo, of course, this meant looking back towards the extensive history of Marvel as an esteemed institution of comics for inspiration; using as reference one of their most recognizable publishing logos, this one from the 90’s, seemed a natural step in the right direction, and allowed me to invoke that ever-important sense of nostalgia, while also making things neat, concise, and highly presentable for a more contemporary age of filmmaking. From here, I thought it was best to consider the films themselves; rather, how different each entry in Marvel’s vast “cinematic universe” was stylistically, and how each could stand to benefit from a singular logo which reflects their individual interests at the forefront, while naturally tying them together under the same umbrella. These end results, generally speaking, pay tribute to the classics of cinema and legendary entries in the sci-fi and fantasy genres, those which easily proved the most fundamental in the creation of the superhero movie as we know it to be. More than that, however, I knew what needed to be all too apparent in each of these designs was an unmistakable swagger, boldness, and confidence, in their past, present, and future works

My professional franchise of choice is the Carolina Panthers. The original Panther logo was a black panther trimmed in blue consisting of silver face features with a 3/4 view. The panther’s mouth was opened with jagged teeth to reveal a vicious appearance. The Panther’s logo started its transition to the logo of today in 2012. This was the first changes done to the logo since the team entered the National Football League in 1995. It was designed to present a more modern, antagonistic, look. It was designed with the intentions of staying true to the roots of the panther’s delicate updates presenting a tougher, stronger, clearer panther. The symbol represents that the Panthers team will attack their competitors in the final phases of the game…

Google takes into consideration all of the visual elements in each design that goes into the creation of Google as a whole. The designers keep a harmony between icons. If you look at the icons, they all maintain a similar visual connection. The same shade of the four colors in the Google logo are repeated within the Google icons. Everything is simplistic, and makes up straight forward geometric forms. All of the icons face forward. Some contain a degree of shadow. The shadows follow the curvature of the form. Typically, the color is always repeated in the same order when on a graphic; Blue, Red, Yellow, Green. In order to make the icons the same sizes, they are lined…

The way we see things tomorrow is not the same as todays. Since there is a lot of logos or icons, people no longer look for the company’s name, they look for the logos or icons. For example, when someone goes to buy soda, they buy Coca-Cola, not cola soda. Before they would buy any type of cola, now it has to be Coke. When a person needs to look up some information on the internet, they say, “Google it.” The logo has taken different company’s name into a whole new level. They make their profit basically from their logos and slogans. But because of this, it is changing people’s minds and different…
