Marine Biology: Personal Statement Of Purpose
When considering what my “purpose” is, I had a hard time narrowing down what exactly it is that I live by. It’s a tough question to answer, especially since there are different branches like your academic, career and personal purpose. I had to question who I am and who I want to be. Academically I want to get my master’s in Marine Biology, career wise I want to become a Marine Biology professor, and personally I want to be settled in a house I built; with a husband and kids. My overall purpose however, is to feel fulfillment and success in everything that I do. My values are things that I want to be evident in my career, school work, and personal life. They consist of achievement, working conditions, and independence. I think that the …show more content…
My top three strengths are Futuristic, Maximizer and Focus. Being Futuristic means that I have the ability to inspire people with my visions of the future. I constantly daydream about my future and plan for what’s ahead. I am always jotting down reminders in my planner or thinking about what kind of furniture I want in my future home. Being Futuristic is important to me because I love organizing everything in my life. Dreaming of what I aspire to do only gives me hope for what's to come later on down the line. My second strength is Maximizer. Maximizers are known to focus on strengths rather than weaknesses. This is important because focusing on my talents only allows me to enhance them thus creating an even better me. As for my third strength, being Focused is the most important to me. I need to have a clear destination as to what I need to do, where I am going, how I am going to do it, and why I am actually doing it. I set clear goals for myself so that I can determine what my priorities are. I also adapt myself to whatever I need to be in order to reach my target goal. All of these strengths will help me achieve my goals of becoming a professor and will also make me a stronger person in the …show more content…
This definitely resonates my personality because I love structure and organization. I love to organize my room, car and school supplies in my spare time (for fun). I have a planner that I use to write down everything that is going on with me. It is a staple in my everyday life and I would probably be lost without it. It’s important that I have a planner because I need something to help me organize my thoughts. Having a place where I can write down my goals only gives me inspiration to accomplish what I have set for myself. This interest helps drive my purpose since it instills structure and order in my life. Being clean and organized helps me stay efficient and productive, in return, setting me up for

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by marine life. I visited the Baltimore Aquarium many times as a child; I remember being amazed by the different kinds of animals I saw. I spent my summers at the library reading about marine organisms, their habitats, their adaptations, and how they interacted with other organisms. In middle school, I participated in a project that consisted of decorating the classroom to represent a biome, and I worked on the marine biome. In the summer before 10th grade, I visited Sea World and was exposed to an even larger variety of marine organisms than I had been before. That fall, in English class we had to write a paper on our career goals; I decided I would like to be a marine biologist. During my senior year of high school I applied to Millersville University to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a concentration in marine biology. Through my undergraduate studies, my interest in biological oceanography developed.…

A strength that I learned stated on the Myers-Briggs assessment is that I am an innovative thinker and excellent problem solver. I find this to be true because whether it is conflict at home, school, work, within myself, or with another individual, I’ve always been able to smooth out differences. Working as a supervisor for a high-end commission-based retail store conflicts occasionally arise. I’ve learned to develop reflective-awareness where I consider my behavior as I observe it.
