Color guard is the visual and the non musical part of a marching band show. Color guard consists of spinning either a three and one half pound rifle or a five and one half foot flag outside, striving for perfection and consistency. The season starts in the summer and is continued through the fall (football season). The enduring practices and heat makes it difficult for some people to give it their all, but at the same time it also helps you to push yourself. If someone does not wish to commit or be the best that they can, they will not survive in marching band color guard. During marching competition the color guard performs the show that they performed during the season and the guard gets judged based on their performance with the band. Also before and after the marching band puts on their show the guard sits in the stands with the band and dances with the band as they play different songs.…

I am writing concerning Tripp Moore, whom I have come to know throughout my years as the Flomaton High School “Hurricane” Marching Band drumline instructor. As Tripp’s instructor, it was a pleasure to get to know him. Tripp has been a great student of mine and it has been my pleasure of being able to teach him. He has some great qualities of a human being and qualities that you would love to see in a leader. Tripp’s hard work and his dedication to music helped him as he joined band and made awesome strides to be on the best percussionist. Tripp also dedicates his time to being a part of the Flomaton High School Jazz Band, and being the drummer at his church First Baptist Church of Flomaton, Alabama. Tripp will one day be a great leader in his…

The traditional color guard held the national flag and marched into battle with soldiers, along with a drummer or a few drummers to keep all the soldiers in step as they marched. As marching bands became more known, the color guard added the "dance" to the music that the band was playing. Now, it has turned into a known sport called "The Sport of Arts".…

An issue that is often debated is whether or not sports uniforms worn by women purposefully lead to sexual harassment. Looking at all evidence, my claim is that women’s sports uniforms do not purposefully lead to sexual harassment, due to the fact that uniforms for every sports, including women’s, are made in specific ways. They are made in these ways for maximum movement and flexibility, for sex appeal, and to keep up with cultural norms. All of these reasons come from a variety of sports.…

If you are really interested in the army or things like that, you probably like to wear camouflage clothing. If you want to wear those styles of clothes to school you can't because the teachers and the principals will think it is gang related, and you would get in trouble for wearing those clothes. When you want to wear two different colors of shoe laces because it matches your clothes, or you think it looks cool, it will be considered gang related. As long as you are there to learn you should be able to wear an earring or even a cap as long as you are not messing with it non stop. Students should be able to wear anything they…

If I am not at school, I usually am either at band practice, exercising, or working. During marching band season, band takes up the vast majority of my time and it takes up even more due to the fact that I am part of the drumline. Our school has the drumline participate in various events around the school causing me to dedicate even more time to band. Once marching band season ends and concert season begins, I begin to dedicate more time towards working and less time towards band. This makes it so that throughout the majority of the school year I do not have much leisure time at all. However every day I do some form of exercising, either running or lifting weights. Recently, I have been preparing to run a half marathon sometime in January.…

Tennis and marching band are two extracurricular activities that require both dedication and commitment. Prior to entering my first year of high school, I decided that I wanted to take my love for tennis to the next level and make the O’Fallon high school tennis team. In 5th grade, I committed myself to playing the alto saxophone in the school band and all that entails with lessons and practice, with an eye on playing in the high school marching band. During high school, I made a commitment to participate in the Rose Bowl Parade in California. After making that decision, I found out I made the tennis team. Practicing both these activities in the summer and playing during the fall semester put me at odds with my parents on what should come first tennis or band. The amount of time needed for both activities to succeed was monumental and would be an uphill battle compared to the actual time I had. This caused internal conflict knowing that one will not get as much attention as the other. At that moment, I decided to come up with a solution to my problem then put it into action. One way or another I had developed two answers. I realized to become good at band and tennis something had to change.…

As I slide my hands into my marching band gloves, I notice details that I ignored during the 4 years I was in Eastern Regional High School. The gloves are white and made of cotton. First, I focus on my wrist. A Velcro strap, surrounding my wrist, fastens the opening. As I stroke the palms of my gloves, I notice the fabric has tiny bumps to create friction and allow for a secure grip.…

In the army there are many uniforms a soldier has to wear. This is for the different activities a soldier does. For everything from their daily Physical Training (PT), their regular working uniform Army Combat Uniform (ACU), or their dress uniform either the Army Service Uniform (ASU), or the Army Green Service Uniform (Class A). Each uniform is design to fit a specific task and to be worn a in certain way. A great resource for either the ASU or the Class A is the “U.S. ARMY UNIFORM GUIDE.” I found this little book a great resource because it shows every form of the ASU for both males and females soldiers, for officers and enlisted. I found this to be great because it shows where everything goes, and how to measure everything, and for a new soldier like me it is important to have the little things right.…

The way I would describe it would fluctuate and reform throughout the six years I would be in the program. At first, I wasn’t sure what the purpose of swinging flags and running around a tarp was. Slowly, I began to realize how it fit together, how the movement flowed, how the team connected with each other, how our choreography reflected emotion, and how I could communicate and connect with an audience. My understanding soon became complete, as I realized that colorguard is the utilization of equipment (flags, rifles, and sabres) and dance to portray through emotional attachment and performance the deeper meaning of music. This outlet for expression was the catalyst I needed to open up to…

For regular everyday wear regardless of what uniform a female is in, there are still a few rules that are the same all across. One of them is that females should make sure that their hair is neatly put up without any straggles of hair sticking out. If they have short hair, they must make sure that the bottom part of their hair cannot touch the bottom part of the collar. When using pins and hair bands, or any item that is needed to put a females’ hair in order, you must take in consideration its appearance as well. You must make sure that it is not any other color but black or brown and it does not have any adornments.…
