Marching Band Leadership Analysis
Being a part of this band has in itself been a memorable experiance, an experiance i would not trade for the world. However this past year I lost hope in band and was actually really close to quitting band all together. I had forgotten why i was a part of marching band with the stress of my school work and frustration over my tiredness in cross country. But when we played at our lakeshore competition i felt something that i had never before felt in the band. I had walked of the feild with what felt like a runner's high, only difference is that I had just marched in arguably the most epic performance i have ever been a part of. I have to thank that feeling i got at the end of the show for the reason i am applying for leadership, and that is …show more content…
But I will take the time to highlight my three best traits i have to offer the leadership. First off i work hard, I tend to push myself to my limits and i benefit from it, I have shown this in my running as well as a majority of my schoolwork. This work effick i have will make me a good person for the rookies to look up to and learn from. The second trait that sets me apart is that i have become open-minded to other options. Yes, i am still a little stubborn but during this past year i have been able to listen to other options and even consider them to improve my ideas or even allow my ideas to be incoroerated. The last trait that will set me apart from the other applicants in my section is that i have the experiance they lack. I have been a captain in cross country and track since my sophmore year, I love my section most days but lets be real some days we can be difficult people to reason with, and this is where my experiance will help. My proir leadership experiance has allowed me to learn how to lead effectivally as well as recognize ineffective ways. I also view myself as being a fairly good marcher, and a marcher who is eager to pass my experiance to the next generation of marchers before i graduate. I hope that based on what i have told you about myself you can see that i do belong on your leadership

Holding the office of drum major in a marching band is a very strenuous duty. Most individuals consider drum majors to be the face and entertainment of the band, specifically with show style marching bands. However, the role of a drum major demands a more imperative trait that separates incompetent drum majors from exceptional drum majors. The trait of leadership is a superior factor in the character of a drum major. Leadership is not equivalent to control, however, leadership is a form of serving the followers who are in need of guidance. This ultimately means that the leader is responsible for maintaining the followers in a standard of excellence. Being drum major molded me into understanding my characteristics as a leader. I consciously prepared myself for the position…

I believe that I would make a great addition to the Millersville family, contributing tremendous qualities to all I encounter. Over the four years I’ve been in high school, I have been a part of some especially rewarding activities. Music has always been a love of mine as long as I can remember. During my elementary school years is when I first started to love the percussion aspect of the music; I loved the creativity in it all. This was around the same time that I became diagnosed with ADHD, making it increasingly difficult to concentrate on the task at hand. This became a huge problem for be before the diagnosis; no one exactly knew how to deal with this issue. I needed to find activities and occupations to channel these feelings and overloaded…

Dear Principle Spencer, Associate Principal Lee, and Athletic Director Fry: You do so much for this school. The goal of success for all students is incredibly apparent through your actions. It is obvious that the football team is amazing, and so are the other sports. They all put forth hard work, and earn their greatness. But you are neglecting a major part of home football games: the marching band. The Turpin Marching Band is one of, if not the biggest team in the school, with 150 members. These people train just as hard as the football team. I can tell you with experience, with how many times I’ve pushed a heavy synth cart through the mud, or up the hill to the stadium like King Sisyphus’ boulder in the underworld. I’ve marched so hard I…

First, I am a strong leader because I have had experience over the years in leading people. Whether it be captain of my soccer team, or being in Student Council for over five years, I have always be raised as a leader which has helped me develop my skills. With my leadership skills, I have helped lead soccer camps and other community service outreaches. Secondly, my school spirit always is always a strong category for me. I always put the best effort I can into my spirit wear, even if it may be absurd. Last year, I received the most spirited Freshman in Student Council and my spirit has not stopped there. This year, I have won the spirit fashion show contests at lunch both times this year. Also, I even created the hashtag lsnspirit to show off our spirit at Lee’s Summit North. Lastly, I take pride in my dependability. This year in Student Council, I have not received a demerit for any reason. I take pride in this and I plan to continue this as in the past two years I have a positive merit status. Furthermore, my dependability is also very flexible. I am able to switch around my schedule just to make time for any Student Council obligation. Overall, due to leadership, school spirit, and dependability, I will assure you that I will be a productive member of Student…

To explain where my inspiration for being drum major came from, I have to tell a story. I told this story in short during my section leader audition, but it is an honest reason (amongst multiple) I am so interested in being a drum major today. It goes back to my sixth grade, when I met Joshua Parmley. Josh was immediately friendly, and it was clear that he had leader-like qualities, as it…

“Your marching technique is one of the strongest in the band, but your musicality leaves something to be desired,” uttered my band director. I left my tenth-grade memorization assessment feeling flustered by overwhelming expectations that I was not fulfilling. Coming from a family of dedicated musicians, and a school where the band program is a fundamental extra-curricular activity, I felt misplaced. Although, balancing the decision behind my actions, engaging in a new environment, seeing my handwork fail, and then learning about the inner triumph of it all propelled me into a future of unknowing success.…

However, my leadership roles did not cease after that. At the end of the 2015-2016 school year, I had gone through an audition process to become the Drum Major for the Liberty High School Marching Band. This process included: receiving signatures of nomination from peers, attending scheduled workshops teaching how to lead the band, a teaching evaluation, a parade route evaluation, submitting a formal application essay and a leadership questions form, receiving a letter of recommendation, and an…

I became a leader in my senior year of marching band and worked with another person to lead the clarinet section. I began by having to collect everyone's information to be able to contact them and make sure that we had an accurate headcount for the writing of the show. The numbers fluctuated and I had to keep tabs on who was and was not there. After that, I had organized a sectional to learn and clean the new dance most of us learned. I had to teach others because they were not at the rehearsal when the rest of us had learned it. We improved the quality of the dance from that one sectional and continued onward with the season. When the school year started I had to work harder to make sure the section was improving. The major problem was there…
