Make-A-Wish Foundation Research Paper
The “Make-A-Wish Foundation”: A 501 non-profit organization founded in the United States that arranges experiences described as “wishes” to children with life threatening medical conditions. Children with severe medical conditions that may or may not get better have a chance to enter themselves in the “Make-A-Wish Foundation”. If they get to grant their wish, their dreams could come true.
There are many different qualifications for you to be able to receive a wish. To be able to receive a wish you have to be at least 2 ½, but under the age of 18. You have to be specifically referred to the Foundation, but you can’t be referred to the Foundation unless you have been determined to be medically able to get a wish by your physician. The Foundation never gives a wish to adults. Some other organizations grant wishes to adults, but the “Make-A-Wish Foundation” never does, and many people get confused on that.
The “Make-A-Wish Foundation” runs solely on donations, considering it’s a non profit organization.The first donation to ever be given to this foundation was from a grocery store manager. He gave them $15. The “Make-A-Wish Foundation” never has any commercials or telemarketers for this Foundation. The “Make-A-Wish Foundation” actually has a policy against door-to-door solicitation, and using the telephone to try and get donations. Many people confuse the “Make-A-Wish Foundation” with other organizations, that have the word “Wish” in their name. Those organizations sometimes use telemarketing to get donations, but the “Make-A-Wish Foundation” will never do that.
Some people wonder why they made the “Make-A-Wish Foundation”. The founders were inspired by a seven year old boy named Chris who was dying from Leukemia. All he wanted was to become a police officer. He just wanted “to catch all the bad guys,” with Austin. The people who helped Chris were all very surprised by strangers reactions, but they wanted to keep helping people. Soon people started to donate money to them, and by 1980 they became tax exempt, because of their status as a non profit organization. Then by the following spring they had raised $2000, and they were able to grant their first official wish.
The main goal of the “Make-A-Wish Foundation” is to grant as many people’s wishes as they can, and just bring happiness to those with medical conditions. Thousands of people’s wishes have been granted, and their dreams came true, and most of them found
