Assiment A - Introduction

The business i will be talking about is Tesco, the background they have dates back to 1919 when the company was first found by the name of Jack Cohen, a few market stools is what lead Tesco were they are today. The multinational super store headquarters is based in London, Hertfordshire, Cheshunt. Having this location is really good because its surrounded by the general public also its ideal to open stores around that area to boost Cheshunts community! As we know, Tesco is a worldwide supermarket but in 1929, the first store was opened in burnt oak, Middlesex… Ten years later Tesco was growing rapidly, 100 stores scattered across England. Tesco don’t just cover England anymore they are an international business, providing services and selling products to everyone, with 6000 stores worldwide covering 14 countries including Asia, Europe and North America! Tesco provide the public with home delivery, banking, insurance, mobile phone contracts, petrol, food, clothing, electrical devices and finical services. Tesco provide goods and services, goods to give the public there everyday requirements also they provide us with services to give us more trust in Tesco also so they have more customers and earn more money to invest in improving the businesses.

The Charity i will be talking about is Oxfam, they was found in 1942 by a group called Oxford Committee which was the first name for this company, for Famine Relief by a group of Quakers, social activists, and Oxford academics. The first store that opened in a different country other than England was found in Canada 1963 the name soon after changed to Oxfam in 1965. Starting from nothing, now the company has 17 organizations working very hard to maintain the 90 countries they are involved in to help fight against poverty and to provide for the much needed public. Jack went to USA and saw the self service retail store and had a plan to start something like this, so he had lobbing with the parliament and managed to pass the retail price marketing law by which a retailer could set his own price for any product, so with the benefit of the retail price maintenance strategy he started his first self service supermarket in 1956 and from then no one could stop the growth of TESCO, now TESCO has seven categories of retail stores, bank, telecom, petrol stations and gas station, film making, record label, gold exchange ,Tesco tire, technological support etc companies running successfully all over UK and around the globe. At present in 2011 Tesco has revenue of 9192 million gbp in Europe 10278 million gbp in Asia with 2082 stores in Europe and 1419 stores in Asia; it also has a franchise agreement with the Trent (Tata group) in India for supporting their Star Bazaar format ( History, Tesco 2011 ).…
