Macbeth Diary Entry Analysis
It seems like just yesterday that I was the newly crowned King of Scotland right after Macbeth’s short but terrorising reign. In fact coming this October that would’ve been 11 years ago. I am the eldest son of King Duncan and also was the one to put the end to Macbeth. Despite this, I surely wasn’t prepared for being the new King of Scotland. This position had great responsibilities, ones that had to take getting used to.
One thing admittedly that I should've been ready for was the commoners who supported Macbeth. Their unhappiness with his death should’ve been anticipated by me and my administration. Being a war hero and stopping a would-be catastrophic rebellion (and the foreign threat of Ireland and Norway) gave him a large group of supporters. These supporters gave me a very tough time during the first few months of my rule. I began a slow moving but necessary campaign to end what was left of Macbeth’s followers which worked quite well. …show more content…
Due to this, eventually they got the idea to rebel against me almost a year after I had taken over as King. Although I put an end to the rebellion shortly after it started, I didn’t stop it fast enough. If only I had known then that this was only the beginning of my soon to be dilemma. Lucky for me, my newly appointed earls rallied to offer me support and come up with ways to deal with the peasants.
Fast forward 11 years and my once loyal nation is rebelling against me with Fleance leading the charge. That damned prophecy. Desperate for a way to stay at the helm of my country I went to England for help. Thank God they came to my rescue for a second time. After a short but terrifyingly close call I brought the rebellion to an end and with help from my earls I drafted new laws to prevent this sort of thing from happening again. However Fleance’s kids did escape… Well I won't need to worry about them for a while, I
