Mac vs Windows

1. What is the difference of Microsoft and Mac? Windows computers are preferred by many because of how easy they can be to customize. Because of the way their hardware is designed, users can replace graphics cards, RAM chips, CD drives, motherboards and other internal hardware at their discretion. Most Mac models, on the other hand, are difficult to upgrade apart from RAM and a few other basic components. Most changes require a visit to an Apple store.

Windows computers are constructed from a number of parts from various manufacturers, which makes the end price rather inexpensive. Mac computers are less customizable and have greater hardware restrictions, so the price for a Mac is more than many Windows computers. Windows ' popularity is also a shortfall when it comes to security, as Windows suffers the most from viruses, spyware, adware and other malicious software than any other operating system. There are malicious programs made for Mac as well, but Macs aren 't infected nearly as often.

2. What useful software are commonly used for: A. Windows 1. Microsoft Security Essentials 2. PDF Creator 3. Microsoft Office 4. Windows Movie Maker 5. Kaspersky Antivirus B. Mac 1. Apple Boot Camp 2. AppleJack 3. Desktop Manager 4. iGetter 5. Yahoo Messenger 3. Name a software that may be used to access: a. Windows on Mac Fusion and Parallels both require a Mac with an Intel processor, a minimum of Mac OS X v10.4.6 Tiger, and 1GB of RAM. More RAM is always encouraged for a smoother experience while running Windows. Parallels asks for 100MB of hard disk space for the installation of the software (excluding Windows) and Fusion asks for 275MB of hard disk space (excluding Windows) for installation. Boot Camp is a built-in feature of Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard and requires a Mac with Intel processor.

There are several differences between Linux, Windows and Mac. One of the first is that Linux is not like the other two. Linux is not a full operating system like Mac or Windows. Windows computers are more susceptible to viruses compared to Mac, which is also less prone to crashes. Windows is used by several computer companies like Dell, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba. One reason a Mac is often chosen over a PC is because of the price difference. Many people that set out to buy a brand new laptop want good quality. Good quality is often misinterpreted for a high price. While high price does not mean good quality, more than likely consumers that invest a decent amount of money into their laptops get what they have paid for. A Macbook generally is priced around $995 to $999. It is often called the $1,000 dollar laptop. Apple recently updated the Macbooks by adding more memory, redesigning the outside, and making it have a larger screen while keeping the price the same and at the $999. Getting an update without upping the price has got many consumers attentions and there is a hope that consumers truly are getting what they pay for.…

Apple and Microsoft are alike in they were created at the same time and both had great ideas. Some similarities they share are products such as portable media players and smart phones, tablet devices, and retail stores. They both have portable media players. Apple has the iPod and Microsoft has the Zune. They both do the same thing, but have completely different functions within the device. Zune is all tiled and more cut and dry verses the iPod ,which is sleek, creative, and allows more wiggle room than the Zune. Apple wins over people with the iPhone; it functions just like their iPod touch and newer generation iPods. Windows has the Windows phone which works like the Windows 8 software, everything is on tiles and very confusing to use. Apple and Microsoft both have tablet devices; Apple the iPad, and Windows has the surface. Lastly, they both have retail stores, where a costumer can come in and buy their products. Apple may have more than Microsoft, but they both allow someone to go in, purchase a…

Mac computers are expensive and everyone knows that. What everybody doesn’t know is that in the long run they will inevitably save more money if they purchase one. With Boot Camp (which is free with any Mac) you can run any operating system simultaneously with Mac OS X, which basically gives you two computers for the price of one. Also if you were to buy a regular Macbook which starts at $1299 and took a Dell XPS M1330 and bought an upgraded battery to match that of the Macbook and also bought Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements which is the equivalent of iPhoto and iMovie applications which come free with iLife on any Macbook then the Dell would cost $1308 with all the upgrades to make it comparable to the Macbook. Also Macs aren’t targets of spyware and viruses to the degree of PC’s so you won’t have to spend money on maintenance and repair with Macs like you would a PC. (Common Myths)…

To begin, the cost of a computer can fluctuate from a few hundred dollars, to a few thousand dollars. A Macintosh differs from a PC immediately because a Mac is built for media programs. When purchasing a Macintosh computer, there are only three types of systems. Apple offers the iMac, MacBook, and Mac Pro. Each one of these unique machines is prebuilt and increases the cost of the computer drastically. On the other hand, a PC can be purchased in a variety of ways. For example, shopping online you can buy a $700 desktop computer that will satisfy the average user for a few years. In addition, you can select and purchase expensive parts for a gaming computer. A $1,500 customized Personal Computer can be built to run any advanced game with ease. However, a $3,000 MacBook will not be able to function as well as the customized gaming PC, and may encounter problems. The cost of an Apple MacBook will always be more expensive because they are all prebuilt, unlike most Personal Computers. Self-building your own PC has become the cheapest method of all, and allows for interchangeable parts in the future.…

Ever been in a computer store and a guy in a nice dress coat with Khaki pants and leather Gucci shoes on, walk and just chuckles at you because you are looking at a Windows PC? Well, chances are that it was either a Mac user. "Mac user interviewed and self-admitted as filling cool, artsy, higher in the social society, and often harassed PC owners trying to get them to switch”. (Firmin 2) If one wants to get more value for their money then they will want to look at nothing else but PC. If one was to take the money that a Mac owner spent and upgrade a PC with the same amount, they would have a much better system than the Mac owner. Macs hardware is well built and appealing but is expensive. Most of their laptops have SATA hard drives which are fast but are short on memory and don't come with DVD players or HDMI ports and the batteries are not removable. PCs on the other hand plenty of design, specification, and price options. Hardware for PC runs from topnotch to trash, with the prices matching the quality.…

Generally speaking, the MAC computer is more expensive than a PC computer. The cost alone would be more attractive to a home consumer. A consumer would be able to purchase a PC computer for about 1/3rd of the cost of a MAC computer, and get the same use out of it. Therefore, because the PC computer is more affordable than the MAC computer, home users generally purchase PC computers.…

Choosing a Windows OS from the start in todays day and age isn’t the best decision one can make. Granted Windows is the most widely known and used OS it comes at a price. It’s also the easiest to spread malicious content through. I prefer a Mac which is built off of a Unix OS in a Unix OS everything isn’t line by line code. It is more of a circular code, everything needs to feed off of what came before it. So if a line of virus code just randomly showed up it would spit it back out since the OS isn’t used to it. Whereas in a windows environment it would take that code and run with it because all of it’s I’s and T’s don’t have to be dotted and crossed for it to move on. It is possible to have a secure Windows computer it is just a lot harder to do then using a competing OS. There are Anti Virus software that’ll help find viruses but the rate people are putting them out when you ‘update’ your anti virus it’s already out of date. With OS X on Mac it’s not as rapid. I’m not saying it’s it can’t ever get attacked or anything like that but to do harm to a Mac it is considerably harder then to do it to a windows computer. Like I said there are plenty of things you can do to make ones computer more secure but one of the biggest things ultimately be what operating system you choose from the…

First of all, PCs have a better user interface. While Mac users have always boasted of having a computer with a clean, modern look, this changed with Windows Vista, released on January 30, 2007. Windows Vista has translucent window bars, a search bar on the start menu, and tabs on the bottom of the screen, as well as introducing a feature in which users can scroll through all open windows. To contrast, Macs require tedious dragging around of windows, making multitasking with several windows open a nightmare. Additionally, Macs have a detached toolbar that is attached to the top of the screen. Being detached has no functional purpose, constantly takes up space, and does not close when the program window is closed. A stereotype of Macs is that they are more user-friendly. However, starting with Vista, the search bar has allowed users to efficiently search for any desired file, and the sidebar was introduced (similar to widgets), which has “a number of functional and useful gadgets,” (Weisben). Windows 7 (released 2009) got rid of the unnecessary security pop-ups, as well as added a toolbar at the bottom with tabs, preventing the Mac system of dragging around windows. Windows 7 also added the feature that allows a user to make a window full or half screen by dragging it to the top or side of the screen. According to Mitchell Ashley, from networkworld.com, “Gone from Windows 7 are Vista's loads of unnecessary bloatware applications, confusing and poorly designed configuration dialog boxes, and moronic UAC popups that impeded a user's productivity at every turn.”…
