Functions of Management

In everyday business operations, the four basic functions of business play a vital role in their success. Businesses need to run smoothly, whether big, small, new or old, and the four functions of management, allows the ability to control preventive measures when handling tactical, planned, and set decisions.

"Good leaders do not tell other people what to do but help others take charge. They do they grab center stage but to nudge others into the limelight. They are not interested in being The Leader, but in trying to create more leaders. Recognizing that only by creating more leaders can the organizing effort expand" (Leading Functions of management, 2009). Leading requires creating an example to follow. Dividing up tasks into manageable portions and the delegation of those tasks ensuring that everyone can complete assigned tasks by providing all necessary resources. Showing appreciation for all contributions no matter how small and welcoming criticism are often difficult for some leaders, but recognition of efforts is important and positively accepting feedback opens up the flow of communication. Boosting self confidence by energizing employees and inspiring trust as people do not follow people they do not trust is as important as maintaining the highest standard of honesty. By avoiding doing most of the work, others will become more involved and leaders will reduce the possibility of burn out for leaders. Two months ago my department loss one of the most efficient leaders I have met in my entire professional career. He believed in team spirit, and gave his team all resources and opportunities needed to grow and succeed. The lack of the iron fist and the ease of communication made him the …show more content…
All four of the functions are related and the most efficient leaders can evenly balance these skills. "It 's important to remember that planning is necessary to get you off on the right foot, but the best laid plans won 't come to fruition if you are an ineffective leader and if organization isn 't completed and controlling doesn 't take place along the way" (White, 2008).
