Low Income Housing Community
Low income housing is a unique geopolitical and phenomenological community that is within identified boundaries and a governing system that share common goals and interests. Within this type of community people may have barriers and challenges that they are facing every day to live comfortably in their habitat. The community nurse will assess the people of the community by using Gordon’s 11 functional health patterns and utilizing the nursing process. This method will provide an understanding of this particular type of community to impart interventions and resources in order to accommodate the community’s needs.

Nurses who work in all areas of community health can be valuable assets to achieving this objective. School nurses identify at risk children and provide parents with information on the available resources for the care. These nurses also provide health screening exams and assist with chronic disease management of the children in their care. School nurses should work closely with the other community resources to assure delay in care is avoided. The nurses go on truancy calls with the truancy officers and can identify living conditions requiring intervention by the Department of Family and Children Services. Additionally, Home health nurses are in the homes and provide a link to identifying health care needs. They can also recognize family needs other than the patient they are caring for. When identified, they can offer resource information and contact proper authorities of any perceived negligence or violence. Public health nurses are available to provide education and resource information. Although not part of the community nursing family, the nurses in ER’s and hospitals should contact social workers and provide community resource materials to the patients they care for. Another factor which can prove beneficial is to communicate with the patients about financial assistance programs, enrolling them in free prescription programs and assisting in applying for Medicaid. They wrote this piece of literature so that people could get a general overview of Elsdon, and they wrote it for general knowledge of the area. The key information for this piece of literature is that houses in Elsdon are usually snapped up by first time buyers and new families. Porirua City Council (2012) states that the housing prices in Elsdon range from $160,000 to $280,000, the median sale price is $237,000 and the more expensive homes in Elsdon range up to $300,000. The houses being moderately inexpensive produce higher profits for home owners that are renting their properties out. Porirua City Council (2012) states that Elsdon houses are quintessentially Kiwi boxy weatherboard three bedroom houses, they are mostly similar in construction, but are all in different condition and colour. They all reflect the designs of the houses largely built in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Many have had modifications, with granny flats, garages, and sleep outs added on to the property. Porirua City Council (2012) states that the iwi’s “tightly held” homes, are generally passed down from generation to generation, or sold privately to other Ngati Toa descendants, often without the use of real estate agents. This piece of literature was not written with quality verified information, there was no proof stating what they said was nothing more than general information and their opinion.
