Love and Green Lanes
Singara Chennai

It was evening and I literally jumped out of my house for my evening walk. I walked through the green lanes, big gigantic trees planted in parallel; I took in a fresh whiff of air. I walked passed the dustbins that had garbage in it (note: IN it.). I admired the clean roads and felt the cold breeze blow through my hair. I loved my evening walks!
Now, please read it all over again and come into the world of reality. I was just describing my SINGARA CHENNAI in my fantasy world or maybe that is showcased in the movie madrasapattinam, where actually, I could be proud of my city.
Green lanes? Ha. Big, fat joke.
Trees...? Nonsense! We have no place for them.
No matter what, we keep our dustbins spotlessly clean. No garbage in them. Only around them.
Forget about the clean roads and fresh whiffs of air. Not going to happen.
Nevertheless, my question is... WHY?
We, Indians, fight for almost anything and everything. Do we ever fight for a cause? In fact, we fight for nothing! From water disputes to bargaining with the auto driver!
However, why is it that we never care or even think about our city? Something you can actually bring a change on!
Some may say “I like the way my city is...” of course, everybody loves the city they live in. I too am mad in love with my city. It is my city and I love it and it is very obvious that it is my duty to keep it clean and pretty. Wake up

When my family and I were on vacation in Connecticut we decided to go the New York City. We got up in the morning and drove to the train station. We rode the train into Grand Central Station, it was very beautiful. The ceiling in the station was high and there was loads of light coming in from the windows. After we arrived at the station we walked to the Natural History Museum. We looked at all the exhibits, they were amazing and very interesting. Then we went to Central park and walked around for two miles. My family and I went to this pond in Central park that had a ton of turtles popping in and out of the water. Finally my family and I went to Times Square, it was absolutely amazing! The bright billboards were extremely cool! We walked around…

Just like it is easy to judge others for what wrong doings they’ve done, it’s easy for us to look at our cities and notice the flaws they have. Transportation and other infrastructures are often first to take the blame for the failure of our cities here in the U.S. Gently winding freeways that cut through impoverished neighborhoods, and bus stops with only a stick with a sign that says “Bus Stop” on it are good examples of ways that our current infrastructure can take the blame. What happens when we look at our cities from another perspective; the positive one. What have we done as residents and politicians to better our cities and help them flourish instead of decay?…

In the past, the expression of all of the Indian’s resistance was seen as rebellious and deemed as imprudent choices. Now after full consideration, one can see that that was their only way out, and how anything other than rebellious acts would have just lead to greater and greater events of violence inflicted upon them. Therefore, the conclusions behind Indian’s reasoning’s have changed over time to the point where now it is understandable why they reacted and tried to put a stop to the abuse before it got…

It is sickening to me that my generation is so focused on the negatives of our beautiful city that they’re too naive to even educate themselves on the history of our city. I don’t care how many shooting there were in one week, or that the mall has failed. I don’t care that there’s only a handful of restaurants and no places to shop. What do I care about? I care that we were the first city to have a black mayor. I care that we have an amazing public school system that graduates 90 plus percent of their classes along with many charter and STEM academies, and other work programs to cater to today’s youth to be successful. I care that we have many locally owned business downtown trying to rebuild what the…

The trail out back the beauty of nature and the smell of the fresh air. The leaves they’re falling all around you. As you walk the trail leads you to a big waterfall that not many people know about. As you just sit on the rock and watch the leaves fall while the sun sets it’s the most beautiful thing you could ever see. Listening to the birds make their music while lying on the rock besides the water. It’s calm and relaxing; However it can get a bit chilly. Sometimes if you take the four wheeler or dirt bike out back Zoey will run along side of you. Zoey is our dog she runs just as fast as the four wheeler does. Then I imagine of being a little girl again going out back with my dad. We used to catch salamanders on our way to where we were going.…

Urban sprawl is destroying wildlife, rapidly expanding, and causing a rise in pollution and disease. If people keep in mind all these detrimental effects of urban sprawl more people will want to start taking a stand against it and get laws and such passed to help slow, and stop sprawl. We all have to work together and acknowledge this huge problem our country, and the world, is facing and we might be able to stop these effects before it is too…
