Lon-Po Po Po 'And' Little Red Riding Hood
Did someone ever act as someone else, and try to trick you? In the short stories “Lon Po Po” and “Little Red Riding Hood” children get tricked by wolves pretending to be other people. The two short stories, “Lon Po Po” by Ed Young and “Little Red Riding Hood” by James Marshall have many similarities and differences in plot. In “Lon Po Po”, three children are left at home while their mom goes to see their grandma, who has her birthday. A wolf notices she goes, and dresses up as grandma to trick the children. Shang, however notices that she is a wolf, and tricks him by pulling him up in a basket to get the delicious gingko nuts of the gingko nut tree. She then drops the basket, the wolf is killed, and they go back into their house. In the story “Little Red Riding Hood”, little red riding hood goes to give food to her grandma, who is sick. On the way, she sees a wolf, whom she tells where her grandma lives. The wolf goes to the house, eats the grandma, and dresses up as her. Little red riding hood …show more content…
The author of “Lon Po Po” states “When the wolf reached out, he could almost touch the highest branch. But at that moment, shang coughed, and they let go of the rope, and the basket fell down and down and down. Not only did the wolf bump his head, but he broke his heart to pieces.” This passage from “Lon Po Po” shows that the wolf dies in the children’s hands. The author of “Red Riding Hood” writes, and he gobbled her right up “Having enjoyed such a heavy meal he was soon snoring away. A hunter passing by was alarmed by the frightful racket. “That doesn't sound like granny,” he said. And so the brave hunter jumped in the window killed the sleeping wolf.” this excerpt shows that The wolf died in the hunter’s hands instead of in the children’s hands. It is clear that there are many differences between the two short stories “Lon Po Po”, and “Little Red Riding

The Grimm Brothers describe Little Red Cap forcing the wolf “down the roof” with the smell of sausage, and consequentially drowning in the trough (Tatar 16). “Little Dread Riding Hood” portrays that heroic scene by designing a presumably older little red riding hood riding a wolf as though it was a horse. This domestication, or possibly dead body, of the wolf into a play toy demonstrations how little red riding hood matures, and is able to defend herself against the wolf rather than relying on someone else, the huntsman, to save…

Sophocles once stated, “Success is sweet, even if it comes from deception.” This truth is portrayed through three different short stories known as “How Stories Came to Earth”, “Coyote Steals Fire”, and “Master Cat: Puss in Boots”. In each of these three tales the main character spins webs of deceit by tricking people or, in some cases, animals into doing what they want them to. This includes Anansi’s act of tricking a snake into stretching himself out so Anansi could tie the snake to the stick in “How Stories Came to Earth.” Another form of deceit used, this time, in “Coyote Steals Fire” is when Coyote pretends to be dead in order to steal the fire from Thunder. In the story “Master Cat: Puss in Boots” Puss creates many empty threats to tell people so that they will lie for him. Each character obtains what he/she wishes to through a form of deception. While “How Stories Came to Earth”, “Coyote Steals Fire”, and “Master Cat: Puss in Boots” share similar tricksters who ultimately achieve their goals, they differ on the subject matters of their strategies, the benefits their tricks play on society, and the justification of their actions.…

One similarity between the story of Johnny Bear and the novella of Of Mice and Men is the description of Johnny Bear and Lennie. An interesting description on p. 2 of Johnny Bear describes Johnny Bear as a “great, stupid, smiling bear”. This description is parallel to the one in Of Mice and Men. “Behind him walked his opposite, a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, with wide sloping shoulders; and he walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws.” (Steinbeck, p.2, Of Mice and Men) In both texts, Lennie and Johnny Bear paired with the animalistic nature of a bear. Besides both of them being compared to bears, both Lennie and Johnny Bear are portrayed as half wits or dimwits. “He stood in the doorway, swinging his arms jerkily the way half-wits do.” (Steinbeck, p.2, Johnny Bear) “The poor bastard’s nuts.” (Steinbeck, p.98, Of Mice and Men) In both texts, these characters are sentenced to aloneness because of their mental challenges.…

Sharing her destination with the wolf turns out to be a bad choice. When Little Red Riding Hood arrives at her grandmother's house, she finds her grandmother looks much like the wolf that she met in the forest. She notes her grandmother's large ears, long nose, and sharp teeth, to which the wolf replies, "All the better to eat you with!" Innocent Little Red Riding Hood is spared by a hunter who happens to hear the exchange between the girl and the wolf. As if the fear induced by a scary wolf that threatens to eat a child does not communicate the message clearly enough, the tale closes by saying,…

Over the course of history it was taught through textbooks and actual footage of what occurred, but now in this time period movies have been made to recreate the footage in modern times. Debates over the years has been is history actually being portrayed accurately and if it gives accurate knowledge of the event. Producers of television series and movies of this generation have become the most powerful historians. Movies expose the viewer to possibly see what history was truly resembling, or it can even give a singularity of knowledge. Hollywood created many motion pictures about previous events, but added in things that was not a part in the true event. During 1989 in the New York Times, it was discussed if movies can accurately grasp the understanding of history. Richard Bernstein researched Mississippi Burning stating it showed violence with realistic detail, but it transformed one of the key events of the recent American experience of the civil workers. During The Final Days it was a highly imaginative reconstruction of the end of Richard Nixon’s final presidency, yet the television series showed accurate knowledge on the tense issue of history (Bernstein). The fictional fable of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas created a motion picture of a representation of the time period of the Holocaust. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas accurately represents the Holocaust and what occurred to all the Jewish Orthodox, yet inaccurately represents history with the impossible actions with the overall plot.…

Many short stories have been written throughout time. Many are just for entertainment, but many of them are for teaching a lesson. Little Red Riding Hood was written partly to teach a lesson. In France, a girl that loses her virginity is said to have “seen a wolf.” That is what this story is based on. Little Red Riding Hood is about a little girl that runs in to a wolf in the forest as she is on her way to her grandmother’s house. Her grandmother was ill and her mother baked some food to make her feel better, in which Little Red Riding Hood was taking to her grandmother. When she met the wolf, the wolf was thinking he did not want to attack the girl because there were workers in the area and he did not want there to be any witnesses. Therefore, the wolf gained the trust of the little girl in just a short time so he can learn where the grandmother lived. The little girl, being naïve, gave the location of her grandmother’s house to the wolf. The end result was the death of the grandmother and the little girl because the wolf ate both of them.…
