Lolab : Land of Love an Beauty
LOLAB: Land of Love and Beauty

As it is with any young soldiers, it was my dream too to serve in the Kashmir valley. I wanted to be the saviour of “the heaven on earth” as it was called by Mughal Emperor Jehangir, marred by religious extremism and terrorism. I started for my posting in Rashtriya Rifles (Counter Insurgency Force) with a lot of enthusiasm.

My posting was in the sleepy North Kashmiri district of Kupwara. Despite its breathtaking beauty Kupwara has been infamous in the recent times for all wrong reasons. Fellow soldiers kept on psyching me up with stories of horror, as how Kupwara contributes to the maximum number of gallantry awards every year, most of it posthumously, though. I finally crossed Kupwara town and entered the famed Lolab valley. Somebody told me Lolab stands for “land of love and beauty”.

Within days, I realised that something was missing. The people I came to save, were all looking at me with hatred. Once the intial excitement settled down, I started seeing the reality of how the militancy/ terrorism has become a part of life for people of Jammu and Kashmir. I saw, people sandwiched between terrorists and military and how terrorism and military contribute to the local economy. I even started thinking, neither the military, nor the government were serious about resolving the Kashmir issue. Many deserted homes of Kashmiri pundits were still there as monuments of the tragic past of Kashmir.

My assigned task was to eliminate all terrorists operating in my Area of Responsibility (AOR). The company commander eagerly handed over the task to me and was looking thrilled about the next 'peace posting' with 'family accomodation'. I met some of the so called “sources” or informers, who make a decent living out of the job. I started familiarising the area and meeting all important traders , political and religious leaders of my AOR.

I decided to do things a little differently. Armed Forces world over are trained to eliminate enemies

Entry: We were on a mission today here's how it went “enemy contact, hostiles on my position.” I knew there were hundreds of them out there. All of our motion sensors were like radiation scanners in a nuclear fallout. Blue one was running faster and swifter than all of us even with the Mjolnir armor on, it weighed over 300 pounds. We jumped up onto the ridge shooting armor piercing rounds into the grunts and elites tearing through their armor and Into their skin. The screeches of their voices and the ground covered in there blue and purple blood. Rockets flew in from above as blue two shot them down. We then threw grenades into the crowd and jumped off the ridge. over the com (type of radio) I told red three to lay…

“You can’t kill your way out of this” former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Directors, Michael Hayden, David Petraeus, John Brennan, and James Woolsey all state during a montage in the Showtime documentary The Spymasters: CIA in the Crosshairs. The Directors go on to lament the CIA’s evolution from an intelligence gathering entity to a targeting and strike organization, albeit not publicly acknowledged as such. More specifically, the former CIA Directors seem to regret the agency’s lack of field operatives working in and around the Iraqi and Syrian territory held by the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Conversely, former United States Ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton argues that the U.S.’s counterterrorism…

In a place soon to be known as The Valley of Death, in a football field-sized clearing called landing zone X-Ray, Lt. Colonel Hal Moore and 400 young troopers from the elite newly formed American 7th "Air" Cavalry, were surrounded by 2,000 North Vietnamese soldiers dug into the tunnel warren mountainside. The ensuing battle was one of the most savage in U.S. history and is portrayed here as the signal encounter between the American and North Vietnamese armies. We Were Soldiers Once... And Young is a tribute to the nobility of those men under fire, their common acts of uncommon valor, and their loyalty to and love for one another.…

We exchanged stories and caught up since we haven’t seen each other for a while. He then asked where the latrine was, so I pointed him in the direction of our outhouse. He left and about 8 minutes passed when (I want to say Tower 2) a then SPC Cohran, opened fire with the M240B right above me. He’s shouted out the three D’s (Distance, Direction, Description) and since I was closest to him, I echoed from the top running into the facility we all resided in to grab my gear. Chaos ensued as everyone began to head to their battle positions. I woke up my Section Leader and told him what was happening then grabbed my gear and ran toward the Mortar firing position. There were about 3 rounds of indirect 300M or so outside of our base. Our base was pretty small, so I assume it was a difficult target for the enemy. By the time our section made it to the mortar firing position, my section leader was already issuing fire commands for the system. I did my role and grabbed an HE round and stood by for the gunner (Then SPC Gilstrap) to tell me to hang it. With all the adrenaline from the gun positions and anger from PFC Salvador being injured felt a pressure to perform and destroy . All I can think was, “If you take one of ours, we’ll take 100 of yours!” .We dropped two rounds HE for an immediate suppression, but we able to acquire a BDA (Battle Damage Assessment) as the enemy…

I am going to describe in detail that compares and contrasts various muscle building approaches. In weight training there are numerous approaches you can take away, in learning how to build muscle perfecting that physique you so badly want. The four different training methods I will compare and contrast today will be, Super Sets, Forced Reps, Pyramid System, and Periodization. Each advanced training method improves your overall fitness goal one way or the other. First we will talk about the super set training method and how it impacts the body when it comes to training. According to http://www.livestrong.com/article/143669-superset-workout-programs/#ixzz25MwKZX7s A superset is an advanced weight training technique or intensity technique. Intensity is an important factor for continued progress and results. Advanced training techniques such as supersets take your workout to a higher level without adding more volume. A superset is two to three exercise sets performed immediately after the other with as little rest as possible in between. Incorporate supersets into your workouts and pump some new energy into your routine. An antagonist superset is performing two exercises back to back for opposing muscle groups. An antagonist muscle moves the joint in the opposite manner of the agonist muscle. Examples of opposing muscle groups include quads/hamstrings, chest/back and biceps/triceps. Set up your superset stations prior to starting the workout so you can move from one exercise to the next with no rest. For the chest and back, perform dumbbell chest presses immediately followed by bent over dumbbell rows. Leg extensions superset with leg curls will hit the quads and hamstrings. To finish off the workout, perform barbell curls with skull crushers. This antagonist superset workout hits all the major muscles. (Livestrong) The Superset…

I woke this morning to the screams of the Germans and the hunger pains in my stomach. Like a robot, I changed into my work clothes and marched over to the end of my bunk to be ticked off. No matter how many times I go through this routine, my heart still pounds as the officers march closer to me. I could feel the beating of my heart through my chest with each step the officer took. I tune into autopilot mode and answer the questions I’m thrown the same way I answer them every morning, the same way everyone is expected to answer. It is through these abusive questions that my hate of German officers became apparent to…

After all, said and done, as a battalion we conducted 33 Air Assault missions, more than any other unit ever conducted in Afghanistan. My company conducted 15 of the 33 air assault missions. In December 2011, due to the drawdown of American troops in Afghanistan., my company received word to hand over our COP and Strong point to the Afghan Army. I had to start taking moving essential equipment from both locations while conducting combat missions simultaneously. The handoff had to be completed in thirty days and the pressure was on. My Soldiers worked nonstop for the next few weeks to complete the mission. Any and everything we could move to include T-walls was transported to the big main Forward Operating Base (FOB). On 20 December 2011, the transformation was complete and the Afghan Army had full control of the area of operation my company once own. It was stressful to maintain accountability of my Soldiers as we had moved to the main FOB. Moving from a constrained environment to a large FOB left room for Soldiers to focus on other things beside combat missions. Our missions did not stop, they actually increased because we no longer had to secure our COP area or man two separate locations. Although my stress level went down it was still there because of the intensity of the missions. Finally, we saw light at the end of the tunnel, as our replacement unit started to roll…

I was squad commander of Logical one an infantry group. My squadron consisted of 5 men. There was Ranas “Mable”, Joey “Avertless” , Alex “Baesically”, Joseph “Scooby”, Dakota “Intercept” and me going by “Logic”. We had did numerous raids on enemy territory and held many of objectives as if everything was a conquest for a larger picture that we were slowly painting as a team. After months being in and out of battle we slowly suffered from lag, and tiredness from the nights before as we served as brothers in the Night’s Watch. With these five men, our bound have grown enormously to the point I wouldn't have anyone else watching my six. During those times on the…

That night I couldn't sleep knowing the fact that i might be killed by artillery overnight. Early the next morning we suited up and met up with the rest of the battalion that i was to work with. As we moved into position the tanks rolled in behind us and you could hear the aeroplanes and i swear on the life of my mother if you looked close enough you could see the Red Baron , one of the most feared and respected men in the skies. It twas a rainy day, some clouds here and there not a lot of sunlight but just enough to see the hell on earth that we've just walked into. Bodies of both allies and central powers soldiers faced down in the mud, men running at each other bayonet in hand stabbing his foe to the ground leaving him to die or brutally beating him with a shovel, mace , rock and even their bare hands . The explosions of the artillery shells hitting the ground were either followed by a loud scream or the rag dollish figure of what was left of a man who was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Every man was either running towards the enemy or back to his trench only to be shot by his own men for being a coward in battle. We set up the cannons as the Colonel blew his whistle to let the “rats” as some men would call them…

As I waited I ran threw the plans that I had come up with last night. All of this started weeks ago. I used to be a navy seal. I was the backup of my squad. I was the sniper and had the best shooting accuracy in the camp. I retired after a good 10 years as a Seal. However, as it was good for the military it lead to a disaster for me and my family later. The car arrived at 8:00 flat just as he said. The car was a black cadillac with all tinted windows. I walked to the car. The window rolled down. I guy wearing black shades was revealed. I told him that I had completed the job. Good he said. Something seemed not right though but I continued talking anyways. I demanded about the deal that they had set. You see the problem with that is if we let you have them you will go to the officials telling them of this. The man quickly pulled out a pistol. I knew that this was going to happen. The plans that I had made were going to come in useful, as I was a Navy Seal after all. In one swift movement I disarmed the man. He opened the door hitting me to the ground. It was going to be a fight and not a pretty one either. I got back up and landed a nice blow to the man's face. He responded with a quick kick and punch. I caught his arm and in less than 10 seconds I had my arms around his neck. Snap, I broke his neck. His lifeless body dropped to the floor as I released my…
