Living In The Moment
Living in the Moment

As much as we all want to fully enjoy life we don’t know how, we experience enjoyment in such variability that we’re not able to pin it down to an exact science. The thing is living is easy, but truly enjoying and appreciating life’s most memorable moments takes a conscious effort. When was the last time you allowed yourself to just sit and savor the present moment – not reminiscing about the past and not anticipating the future? Not doing anything just being. Being in the here and in the now. It’s strange but what we don’t realize is that life is now, not five years from now not in the troubled past memories but now. Why is it then that we can’t quite our minds and live?

Is it because we have sold our attention to things that were once trivial to us? Is it because of our obsessive commitment to staying connected with the world that we have lost connection with our self?
Whatever it may be, it all comes down to our inability to live consciously. Our thoughts have become our masters and are lives circle around them not allowing us to see them objectively – to get the bigger picture. We have lost the choice to dwell on something instead we only know how to slip into a thought pattern and then get lost in it until something from beyond our control nudges us and brings us back.
The sad truth is that living in the moment is not something we are taught in our lives neither something that is much talked about. We hear it every now and then from wise old people but we don’t know what they really mean by it. If we were all to be more present in our lives everything we do would echo that notion. Our every action would come from place of pure focus and attention. We would no longer be dominated by our never ending thoughts. We would go for what we want because not going for what we want because of what might happen next is something people not living in the moment think about it.
Suddenly and at times subtly we will start to realize how beautiful our lives really are. How so many interesting, fun and amazing things happen around us. All our conversations would become highly engaging because we won’t be thinking about what we ought to do right after this conversation.
Happiness is a universal common desire something we all feel like we deserve yet so few of us know that Happiness is here and now. If we are not happy now, we might as well admit we are not happy. Happiness is not in the past, sometime in the future, or at the end of any road. It can't be obtained through reasoning or acquired through thought. It can only be felt in this exact moment where we are standing. The distance between us and happiness is 0. . Listen to your emotions and chose to feel happy.

Free yourself from your thoughts, free yourself from things that drain the life out of you for you only live once. Free yourself from any weight of the past or any anticipation of the future. Realize that only you can control how you feel - about anything. Free to see things for what they are and free to give your time and energy to what really matters to you.

“You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this.”
― Henry David Thoreau

We do not enjoy the present because we are living to make the future better. In addition, while talking about patients who have just received sight, Dillard wonders why we do not give these people paint and brush when they still did not know what anything was (9). To them, the world is new and everything is amazing, they appreciate the gifts that most people overlook. To build on Dillard’s point, Heat-Moon discusses the thriving life contained in a Texan desert. It was claimed that the desert held nothing yet in “A List of Nothing in Particular” Heats-Moon proves that that is far from the truth. After listing thirty separate events that he observed, Heat-Moon writes that “[t]o say nothing is out there is incorrect; to say that the desert is stingy with everything except space and light, stone and earth is closer to the truth” (15). To the unobservant, the person just driving though, there is nothing, but the fact is that the desert is teaming with life. Heat-Moon makes the same point—albeit in a more concise manner—that Dillard does, by simply taking a moment to stop and be present in the moment we open ourselves to a world of marvelous occurrences . He was able to create a list of 30 distinct observations just by pulling over and looking in a place that everyone…

While we don't control which thoughts float in and out of our consciousness, we do control which ones we allow to live there. That, I think, is where our power comes in. There is, quite simply, no way to send those thoughts packing without the power of Intuition and Instinct.…

According to Ben – Shahar’s happiness model, there are four patterns that human can express the way they live: Nihilism, Rat Racing, Hedonism and Happiness. Each archetype reflects the different links between present happiness and future benefits. Nihilism archetype is people who are giving up their hopes in the searching for the meaning of life. These people do not enjoy the happiness of the present, and they do not have any purpose or hope for the future. To put it another way, they do not really live. They just survive. Meanwhile, Hedonism archetype followers only enjoy happiness in the present and they do not even have any slight thoughts to the possible consequences in the future. These people do not like challenges in life. They avoid hard work because they think it is boring and miserable.…

Sometimes in life we find ourselves searching to replace or relive those moments or people that have played integral parts of our lives. These moments, for whatever reason, have a hold on us. They’ve left a yearning deep within us that won’t be quenched until we experience something or someone that feels just as good. However, the sad truth is that sometimes we waste our whole lives searching for that thing that probably will never be again and miss the preciousness of every moment thereafter.…

Yes, we look into ourselves and believe we have found an answer, but finding yourself isn’t enough. This type of thinking is what causes us, the human race, to work/follow like ants do their queen. Yes, like ants, we find out special niches in the colony, but we have no will to do what we feel we should because we’ve stopped at finding ourselves, we look into the textbooks given to us and assume we now know everything. Yet, because our standards, our society tells us that we are now grown men and women because we have our roles in society and we’ve learned what’s in the textbooks we believe we understand…

Most people do the same thing every day, going to work, eating, then sleeping. It’s a very dull way of living, yet most people don’t do anything about it. Of course, it’s not easy; leaving such a stasis life can be difficult, and it’s easier to not get in to that cycle than leaving it. However, being more spontaneous in life, even if you have to put in more effort, it’s better than being stuck in that…

Wayne Cordeiro puts it “You are one attitude away from a great life” The life that we live today is because of the life we have lived yesterday, together with all the right and wrong decisions made. If we choose to live a successful future life, we ought to carefully make the right decisions now. More so, look for something to improve in ourselves. Develop what needs to be developed in us. If we all ought to increase even just 1 percent of daily improvement, we will soon find out that at the end of the year, we have become 300 percent better than the previous year.…
