Little Mermaid Comparison
Disney movies portray the Little Mermaid to be a glorious, and exciting fairytale romance that was completely altered to shelter children while still trying to teach them valuable lessons that they could use in their everyday lives. Ariel in the Disney version learned not to trust weird strangers, follow her heart, value your family, get creative, etc. However, the original story tells of more gruesome punishments to Sirenetta’s curse that taught her a lesson forever; Sirenetta’s grandmother gave her a potion that would give her the “gift” of legs that could help her reach the young prince that she had fallen in love with that lived in a kingdom not far. The potion would give the feeling of being split in half with a double sided sword, and …show more content…
While the mermaid is on land trying to convince the prince that she in fact is the one that saved him from the shipwreck, she sees that he is to be married to a neighboring princess to join the kingdoms. Serenetta learned from her grandmother that humans have a smaller lifespan than humans, however, they have eternal souls that mermaids do not, therefore, Serenetta would outlive the prince and turn to seafoam while his met his creator. Regretting her choices after all this time she knew that he married the princess she would be turned into seafoam by sunset, but if she killed him and let his blood drip onto her feet then she would turn back into a mermaid and live out her days as a mermaid with her family. However, love got the best of her, and costed her life proving just like in many stories that love will make you do anything, and love is …show more content…

Serenetta is dependent on her father mostly because she is still a child, or seen as a child in modern day society, and her father is royalty. This story could not have ended happily like the disney story and taught the same lessons, because this story unlike the disney version shows that no matter how hard you try, everything can be against you and you cannot battle against because something aren’t in your best interest. “She knew that her love for the young captain was without hope, for she was a mermaid and could never marry a

The Sleeping Beauty story is one that has been retold and remade constantly throughout world history. From German beginnings of “Little Briar Rose”, to Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, each version has followed the guidelines: a beautiful young lady is trapped in eternal sleep, a prince who wakes her with a kiss, and a happily ever after in the castle. These go on without the acknowledgement of the Prince’s ogress mother or the cannibalistic tendencies of a jealous wife or queen. However, in today’s society many people have brought on the idea that perhaps Sleeping Beauty did not want to be woken up. That she would much rather lay to rest with her memories than wake up a century later with nothing from her past. Magnetic Rose by Katsuhiro Otomo (1995)…

Ariel has grand feminist goals to explore the world and has talent as well as beauty. However, she has a stubborn and aggressive attitude that always gets her into trouble; resulting in constant supervision. This is the reason why she disobeys her father and ends up falling in love with a human – which is strictly forbidden. Ariel changes herself for a partner of the opposite sex and gives away a precious talent just so she can walk on land to lust over Prince Eric. Her voice is the most important thing to her and she trades it all for a man. These aspects show that Ariel needs a man to be happy and more importantly than men…

Unfortunately, the sun set on the third day. This meant that Ariel now belonged to Ursula forever. But, King Triton stepped in. “To save his daughter, King Triton gave Ursula his great powers and became her prisoner” (Musker & Clements 13). I believe that King Triton is the heroic one in this fairytale because he was willing to give up his powers as king of the sea just to save his daughter that betrayed him in the first place. If anything, that is true love and not the blinded love Ariel felt for the prince. Of course, the story focuses more on Prince Eric saving Ariel by killing the sea-witch, Ursula. In the end, the Prince Eric and Ariel share true loves kiss and live happily ever after. But, the ending still leaves me questioning how true…

I have always pretended to be belle from “Beauty and the Beast.” I wanted so desperately to find my prince charming, dance to songs, have a castle filled with enchanted creatures, and have a library filled with books from floor to ceiling. Many years later, after watching the same story plot unfold, what I can honestly say about Belle is that she could have been a role model in ways that she lived her life. The personality of Belle was her strength, because she was open-minded and the abundance of love that she gave out. I also find myself to possess this personality of caring for others.…

There are many versions to the famous fairy tale Cinderella. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm’s German version of Cinderella, “Aschenputtel,” is a household story of a young girl named Cinderella who eventually marries a prince. This specific version of Cinderella gave birth to the Walt Disney version of Cinderella that most Americans know today. However the stories are very different. The Grimm brothers’ version is much darker and gory then the classic American version. Small differences like this shed a different light on Cinderella and her journey to a “happy” ending.…

In the Little Mermaid, it is a norm; “expectations by which a society guides the behavior of its members” (Macionis, pg. 68), for mermaids and other sea creatures to look down on humans. Triton assumes that all humans are dangerous and Sebastian assumes that all humans eat fish, they do not take into consideration the idea that not all humans are created equal. Ursula, the sea witch is evil because she makes a deal with Ariel but she sends Flotsam and Jetsam to prevent Ariel from kissing prince Eric. I believe that this movie does have implications on children, Ursula, Flotsam, and Jetsam are made to be scary characters while the good characters are not. In most cases, kids would rather be the good characters than the evil characters.…
