Questions 1-8
Questions 9-15
Suggested approach
• Read the task rubric carefully. In this task you have to decide which match is being described in each question.
• Decide what information is best to skim for in the passage: the type of match or the description. In this question it is best to skim for the types of match as these are names, some of which are in italics, they are easier for you to pick out.
• Skim through the text until you find match A, the Ethereal Match.
• Read that section of the text and underline any important features of this match.
• Read through the descriptions and write A next to any that fit this type of match.
If you think there is more than one possible description for the match, note A next to both.
(The rubric states that you may use any match more than once. )
• Towards the top of the second page of the text it states that the Ethereal Match consisted of a
“sealed glass tube”, so A is the answer to question 14. Note that the description is expressed differently from the text. Sometimes you have to match the meaning rather than the words. • If you think none of the descriptions

By considerable measure, the largest known animal on Earth is the blue whale. Mature bluewhales can measure anywhere from 75 feet (23 m) to 100 feet (30.5 m) from head to tail, and can weigh as much as 150 tons (136 metric tons). That's as long as an 8- to 10-story building and as heavy as about 112 adult male giraffes! These days, most adult blue whales are only 75 to 80 feet long; whalers hunted down most of the super giants. Female blue whales generally weigh more than the males. The largest blue whale to date is a female that weighed389,760 pounds (176,792 kg).…

After taking the survey on listening, I learned that I have a number of factors that make me a good listener, however, there are a couple areas that I could improve upon. My survey was composed of a few 5’s, mainly, 4’s, a 3 and a 2. With the areas that I rated myself a 5 in came from listening skills that I have actively tried to improve over the years. I learned from the survey that I could give more advice and learn to enjoy silence. This is going to take effort for me because I only really give advice if I am specifically asked to by the person in the conversation because unless asked I usually feel uncomfortable providing advice. Another area I will have to improve on is enjoying silence more, this will probably the most difficult…
