Lion Population decreasing rapidly Lion deaths have been at an all-time high lately. Lion’s existence is becoming less likely in parts of Africa. “Recent studies on African lion population show that about three-quarters of Africa’s savannah has disappeared over the past 50 years”, (Evans para 4.)

As the years have passed the deaths of lions have become so much more popular. They have become popular now because the deaths are not due to a natural life cycle. There are only a few lions left in the wild. These Lion deaths instead are caused by inhumane acts by humans. Lions have been killed more by human’s hands rather than rival animals or natural deaths. After a couple hours they tracked the lion back down and took his life by shooting him. The next days the conservation team found Cecil’s body skinned and beheaded. “They went hunting at night with a spotlight and the spotted Cecil,” Rodriquez said, “They tied a dead animal to their vehicle to lure Cecil out of the national park, they scented the area about a half a kilometer from the park,” or about 550 yards.(Melvin pg 4 para1.”) This caused an international outpour and brought awareness to how bad the lion population is dwindling away. To the African community this was no new information it is said it reached international hype because the lion was so popular. Africans believe if it was any other lion there wouldn’t have been so much attention, but since the lion was collared and under American research there was so much celebrity. Many Americans are known to go to Africa to hunt wild game all the time whether, it be lions, wilder beast, elephants, rhinos, and/or buffalo. “60 percent of all lions killed for sport in Africa are shipped to U.S. as trophies (Flocken para 4.)” The conversationalist are most worried about the decreasing number of the lions and rhinos. These are all different ways human have become the biggest problem with decreasing number of lions. Canned hunting is a guaranteed killed. Canned hunting is when the lion is breed just so their offspring can be hunted. These offspring are very used to humans so they see no harm. When someone canned hunts the lion is in an enclosed area being that the lion sees no harm in humans the hunt it’s very easy. This kind of hunting is illegal. “Trophy hunting is also counter-evolutionary, as it’s based on selectively taking the large, robust, and the healthy males from a population for a trophy room, (Flocken para 5.)” The trophy hunt will use these lions as accessories and they will be sold for rugs, heads on the walls, etc. These trophy hunters may always be around because they bring in some much
