Liberal Education Strengths
During my summer, my class and I took the StrengthsFinder test, which was a series of questions that allowed us to recognize our strengths. The test said that my strengths were harmony, responsibility, developer, consistency, and futuristic. The test did a very accurate job at using my responses to categorize me into these five traits. Harmony was very eye opening to me because when I saw the description, it allowed me to understand myself better. I like to use my words instead of actions to solve a problem and that makes a good representation of harmony. I was a bit confused on how Harmony could be a strength; I soon realized that it is a strength because harmony can change the world in several ways. If everyone lived peacefully and in harmony, …show more content…
The name of the article was called “only Connect… the Goals of a Liberal Education” by William Cronon While I read this essay I thought about how my strengths would help me in college to become a better person and a better student. One of the goals of a liberal education was that liberally educated students know how to listen and hear. I compared this with one of my strength goals which was harmony, knowing how to take the time to listen to others is a form of peace and tranquility, so instead of using actions to send out a message. One with the harmony trait can use words of compassion and reasoning to express what they believe in. Another one of Cronon's goals was "they practice humility, tolerance, and self criticism". When I read this goal I thought about my futuristic strength. Humility, tolerance, and self-criticism are important when it comes to looking towards the future. Without experience in these three qualities, you cannot know how to deal with what comes later. Lastly, I saw my developer strength very similar to the "nurture and empower the people around them" goal. Developers are supposed to help others get better. They get joy from seeing others succeed. These two concepts are very similar and allow me to better as a person. These traits show who I am as a person. I am studying to be a nurse and I feel like a nurse's job is to help others get better. Nurses are always there to comfort individuals and make sure their patients are doing well. They may even offer some advice and bring a smile to one’s face because of this

This book review is on Strengths Finder 2.0. Written by Tom Rath, this book follows and elaborates on Donald Clifton's Strength Finder assessment created in 1998. Strength Finder 2.0 looks to dispel the outdated belief that only weaknesses need to be improved upon. The textbook Psychology Applied to Work describes this concept as positive psychology, "The aim of positive psychology is to shift the emphasis away from what is wrong with people to what is right with people" (Muchinsky & Culberson, pg. 384, 2016). With that premise on its head, Strengths Finder 2.0 looks to first identify the strengths of others and directs them to improve on what they already do so well. Even though the text can be applied practically, the book really focuses…

According to Dictionary.com, a strength is the quality or state of being strong, a mental power, force, or vigor; a weakness is the lack of strength, an inadequate quality. We all have and carry our own strengths and weaknesses of qualities. As I’ve learned in class this week, every nurse can be a leader. It was difficult to see the leader in myself until I took the Nurse Manager Skills Inventory by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. There are four areas I am going to discuss here about the Inventory: First is my personal and professional accountability as a nurse; second is career planning; thirdly is my personal journey disciplines; and fourth, and final, area is my reflective practice reference behaviors/tenants.…

. With the Program in Liberal Medical Education, one must take full advantage of the opportunity to complete a liberal education. As such, there are many courses I would take that revolve around my scientific and medical interests, as well as liberal arts courses to develop my intellectual and creative capacity. I am fascinated by the complexities and fragilities of the human body, and at how one change in a gene or a lack of a hormone can cause potentially fatal effects. Therefore, I could take Introductory Biochemistry, Biophysical and Bioinorganic Chemistry, Introduction to Neurogenetics, Molecular Genetics, Biology of Emerging Microbial Diseases, and Endocrinology to explore these interests.…

Liberal arts is a form of study in which the learner focuses on gaining general knowledge, rather than a specific skill in a specific line of work. It is designed to give the learner a more full educations. I chose liberal arts because I feel it is important to have this full education- that is, to be exposed to various viewpoints and sides of life that I may otherwise pass over. I was also drawn to the idea of not being limited in my studies to courses only pertaining to my major. So, it was both a strategic and logical decision. Frankly, I thought I might get bored studying policies for four years.…

One of my strengths is that I do the hard stuff first. For example, once the worst part of the project is done or my worst subject is over with, the rest will be easier to finish off. Another strength is that I schedule everything that I do. I use a calendar to write down my class time, social events, work times, and homework schedule. Organizing my time by using a calendar is a good overview of how the day will unfold. That day, I won’t get stressed out or unorganized. Finally, goals would be one of my strengths. They keep me focused, motivated, and persistent. The reason why goals are important is because being motivated will keep you working hard.…

The great physicist Albert Einstein once said, “The value of education in a liberal arts college is not the learning of many facts, but the training of the mind to think something that cannot be learned from textbooks.” Einstein further conveys that liberal studying helps develop critical thinking and analytical skills with a touch of creativity. Liberal arts education helps set a common base for worldly knowledge; it strengthens awareness of the natural world. Rather than just knowing facts from the textbook, liberal arts education helps apply that to everyday life.…

Honesty, authenticity, genuineness, bravery, and valor are my top strengths. I was shocked by these results not only because I feel they are extremely accurate, but these are the things I value most in life, especially honesty, I feel that you can hate a man to the core, but if that man is a truly honest man you can only respect him. I want to be an epitome of a truly honest man, and I believe my character strengths will help me achieve this goal. My bottom strengths were the love of learning, self-control, and regulation. I feel these strengths are just as important as my top strengths, and I need to maximize them all in order to become a great leader. Since one of my strengths is consistency, this would be great for bringing a community together because I would try to incorporate anyone who was being left out into whatever the group is doing or start up a conversation with them to make then more comfortable. Same goes for individualization, because this would help with bringing a community as well since I would be able to notice how well a group of people are interacting with each other. Decision making, logical thinking and planning are also important to know what works best in a situation for the community. For example, whether it would be better to include someone into a group or talk to them one on one. In addition, planning ahead would be beneficial to organizing events for the community. I believe that knowing my five strength will impact my future self, because even though I might have done these actions relating to my strengths before, I did not realize it was something that is a big part of me. Now that I know this something I do a lot without realizing it, I can utilize my strengths to my advantage for interacting with people, and seeing what is best in a situation for myself as well as…
