In addition gay marriage is such a controversial topic. Gay marriage has become a form of deviance but is having some struggles being more accepted by society. According to Homosexuals as deviants in America “In most American cities and towns, if two openly gay men walk down the street holding hands and show general signs of affection, common among heterosexual couples, they will likely receive remonstrative stares, be viciously derided, and avoided. The homosexual couple has been labeled with a stigma. In other words, their community has changed their attitude and behavior towards homosexuals because for whatever reason, they believe homosexuality is wrong”. Society feels as if homosexuality is a deviance and they are breaking the social norm because of the expectations of the LGBT community behaviors based on their label. I feel no one should be criticized for showing public display affection if you love someone enough to show it they should go ahead and show it. In regards to that in the article Homosexuals as deviants in America “Dr. Patrick L. Cooney argues that homosexuality is different because it is a condition which one is born into and not a deliberate act. There is also not any way to stop the “deviant” behavior of homosexuality because it’s not a choice. Because of this homosexuality is not a clear example of a secondary deviance. While it is at least in modern American society, considered “deviant” at least in the primary sense and there is a stigma associated with it there is not a clear connection that forces homosexuals to state a secondary deviance as argued by Farrell and Nelson”. This being said secondary deviance would have to include sexuality and how they self-identify and change their actions based on other people. I agree with this argument because I do feel like being homosexual shouldn’t be considered being called deviant. Just like the doctor said if you are born being homosexual that shouldn’t affect who you are as a person.

A Defense of Homosexuality.” He responds to two arguments against homosexual sex, that it is unnatural and harmful. Unnatural refers to that which deviates from the norm, from what most people do. Corvino distinguishes various senses of “unnatural” and his overall conclusion in this regard is that homosexual sex is not unnatural in any morally relevant sense. He defends the practice of homosexuality against the charge that is harmful. He takes issue both with the claim that the practice of homosexuality is harmful to those who engage in it and with the claim that others are threatened by it (Mappes). Many people believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman because that is the view installed throughout the Bible. There is still skepticism from opinions that range in a form of discrimination because neglect is present. Their demand to be able to enjoy the benefits and recognition of being married are irrelevant showing an effect on the family as a whole. To begin, I must admit that I approached David Blankenhorn's book The Future of Marriage with some trepidation, as I know that he is against extending marriage to same-sex couples. After reading the book, however, I have to give him credit for approaching the issue with more respect than most who believe in preserving “family values.” He doesn't fall into the easy and usual trap of moralizing about homosexuality being "wrong," "perverted," or "unnatural." In fact, he goes as far as saying "homosexual behavior is an important and normal (expected) occurrence in human societies" (Blankenhorn 115) and "[w]e as a society can and should accept the dignity of homosexual love and the equal worth of gay and lesbian persons" (179). Gay marriages have been one of the hottest and controversial topics in our society. There are still problems concerning this issue of homosexuality and gay marriages. Same sex marriages are legal in Hawaii, but in all other states couples must be of the opposite sex to form a marriage. Hawaii’s decision to legalize same sex marriages is considered a milestone victory for gays and may cause a ripple affect for similar action in other states. Those who support gay marriages justify their position by the concept of love. These supporters of gay marriages feel as though gay people are being deprived of their right to love.
