Let’s Not Loose Thanksgiving
For decades now Thanksgiving dinner with friends and family would consist of eating turkey, giving thanks, and spending time with those who are near and dear to you. However with the local economy and global conglomerates are becoming greedier with wanting more profits from this holiday. As a result “Grey Thursday” emerged. Companies are now trying to entice more people to partake in this tradition. Deals now start at 8 p.m. Thursday. On one hand here are people out there who are trying to get a good deal for the season. On the other hand there are the shoppers who will trample over someone in order to get a good deal. Due to the situation and the time of the year buyers want to give their children, friends, and family the best items for the least amount of money. If we try to replace that with yet another day designated for shopping then where does that leave us and the legacy of traditions. Traditions that have been set by the first thanksgiving. The original thanksgiving of when the pilgrims arrived and shared in the feasting and blessings of the harvested crops. These traditions that we have known for many decades now are being pushed out in order for this unclaimed holiday of shopping to be celebrated. Leave thanksgiving to be celebrated as a day of giving thanks and spending with your loved ones. There will be better opportunities later to shop.

“A Native American Thanksgiving”, written by Beverly Cox and Clara Sue Kidwell, is an informational article including recipes, all relating to Native American culture. They begin this piece by dating back to the earliest known facts of “Thanksgiving” between the Pilgrims and the Indians. Cox and Kidwell set out to show the reader the real meaning behind this holiday. Pointing out that Americans only give thanks once a year, they go in depth about the Native American’s beliefs of giving appreciations. I didn’t experience my first Thanksgiving until I was 10 years old. For millions of Americans, Thanksgiving is a day for feasting on immense portions of food, watching football, and napping on the couch. However, for most of my life, it was just an ordinary day like any other, in which I was allowed to miss school, play games, and even watch some TV. It wasn’t because I didn’t know about Thanksgiving.…

Thanksgiving has been viewed as a day of gratitude, spending time with family, and eating lots and lots of turkey. However, recently, Americans have seen Thanksgiving night as preparation for the next day which held many irrefutable offers in all stores. Instead of giving thanks for all the blessings they have, families are going over their strategies of how they are going to take advantage of the next day. Some argue that we’ve lost meaning of Thanksgiving as a nation. I agree with this statement because Black Friday has negatively impacted the masses so much that in order to prevent any mishaps from occurring the government might have to take a stand.…
