Leadership and Power Paper
“The Prime Minister’s Powerful Better Half”
Ho Ching is one of the world most influential female leaders in the business industry. Based on the mini case and the given that influences described as the degree of actual change in a target’s behaviors, I would say that I would describe Ho Ching as an influential leader.
Ho Ching not only plays a major influence to Singapore’s leading companies but is also CEO of Temasek Holdings where she has many changes, which have been beneficial by pushing more open policy and taking Temasek Holdingsand expanding the Asian market by introducing in to India.
After the controversy that came about from her becoming CEO of Temasek Holdings and being the spouse of the Prime Minister, Ho gave a speech where she used Rational Persuasion and Inspirational appeals. In her speech she made logical arguments and at the same time aroused emotion in her audience by speaking about her personal relationship with her husband.
Forbes and Asia’s Most Powerful Business People have recognized Ho Ching as one of the most powerful leaders and women. Ho’s major sources of power have been the expert power, Ho is very knowledgeable and educated being a Stanford-educated electrical and a government scholar. Referent power is another one of Ho’s sources of power since she is the wife of the Prime ministers well as overseeing a portfolio worth over $50 billion and being the influence of many of Singapore’s leading companies. Being CEO of Temasek Holdings has given Ho legitimate and reward power. From the reading, my perspective of Ho Ching’s motives are to be active and assertive, to exercise influence over subordinates and her willingness to do routine administrative tasks.
Based on the case managerial differences based on gender do seem to have taken part. As the study showed females “female managers were more likely to act with the organization’s broad interests in mind, consider how others felt about the influence attempt, involve others

Lincoln was elected as the President of United States in 1860. By 1861, the nation had splintered into two factions, the Northern Union and the Southern Confederates. Being a president he concentrated on the military and political aspects of the war. Lincoln took the risky step of expanding the power of the president in his quest to rejoin the nation. Lincoln closely supervised the war especially in selecting the top generals, he brought leaders of both different parties into his cabinet and pressured them to coordinate. Under the leadership of Lincoln, the union took control of slave states at the beginning of the war to capture the Confederate capital at Richmond and he was successful in 1865. Lincoln was a very strong…

Carbonell, J.L., & Castro, Y. (2008). The impact of a leader model on high dominant women’s self-selection for leadership. Sex Roles ,58,776-783. This study had women observe a leader model of either gender model a task they would have to complete. The study looked at effects of gender role model in the decision of high dominant women to be leaders, given a masculine task to complete with a male co-worker. The hypothesis states that women would become leaders at a higher rate when a woman model is given rather than a male. The research took a total of 190 students: 95 women and 95 men. Each individual was given the California Psychological Inventory, measuring: impression, communication, and dominance. This study looked at dominance in particular. Only 15 pairs were exposed to women models. The study observed 2 groups to support or reject their hypothesis. Focused groups were made of high dominant woman paired with a low dominant man with a female model, and high dominant woman paired with a low dominant man with a male model. A chi square analysis showed a correlation between leader model and leader development, “The results are that 60% of women took the leader role when given a woman model compared to 20% in male model” (Castro, 2008). The study concluded in the presence of a female model, high dominant individual would be the leader. The gender of the leader model did not affect leadership for males. I believe this study shows importance of woman leader models in professional fields. The lack of exposure of woman leaders for women reduces the chances that they will take on leadership roles.…

The project I chose to demonstrate my leadership on was to go around the Frostburg community picking up recycling and then dumping it in a local landfill. I first chose this project to work on because I thought, how could I help Frostburg and give back to the community? By recycling products and going green, these products can eventually be reprocessed and re-used without having it go to waste. I mainly decided to collect recycling to maintain and keep Frostburg clean and liter free. It establishes a healthy environment for locals, students and staff around the area. Going green and keeping the community environmentally friendly is highly stressed around the world today. Any kind of helpful service regarding recycling is beneficial to the environment and that’s what I planned to do. It is important for me to serve Frostburg by recycling because it isn’t the first time for me. Throughout my early years I have gone around collecting trash and recyclable goods through certain groups such as church camps and other clubs. I learned a lot about why it is important to recycle and ways to do it.…

In a real world setting it is difficult to prove that ‘men are better managers than women’. This essay focuses on critiquing this statement; furthermore is currently a controversial issue. A manager is defined as “an individual who is in charge of a certain group of tasks, or a certain subset of a company. A manager often has a staff of people who report to him or her (1).”Societies invariably have different views in relation to what they constitute as a good manager. Large scale movements of feminist ideology have developed in the modern era. In the past century women have endeavoured to gain an equal status as men, as well as improving living standards. As men and women generally employ different management styles, such influences would have a substantial effect upon organisational culture and performance.
