Leadership And Critical Reflective Practice
Introduction As I journey through my MBA studies, there are various factors that help to shape and define my understanding and learning. One main factor is that of leadership and critical reflexive practice ( Cunliffe, 2004). The aspect of leadership is integrated in so many facets of our lives. It enables us to view others from various perspectives and gives a greater knowledge and understanding of concepts in making a decision and in making sense of any given situation. Thus far, I have a much more comprehensive knowledge of what leadership is and how it relates not only to my organization but also in everyday life.

This can be demonstrated through collaboration efforts within the work community. Hence, a leader who involves his followers can produce a greater level of respect, trust and wider perspective of ideas and creativity from workers. I believe that by simply asking basic questions to workers such as “What are your views on the new system implemented?’ Are there any questions regarding the meeting last week?” Are there any suggestions towards the new phase of our development?,” the followers would have a shared meaning and perspective of the organization’s goal and not just view it as that of the CEO. In addition, as personality various within organizations, some workers may not have the trait of extroversion or openness, but with an “invitation” to contribute suggestions will allow for proper feedback that could prove beneficial on both ends. According to Kolb & Kolb (2005) there are four basic learning styles including Diverging, Assimilating, Converging and Accommodating. As I reflect on my learning style which is a combination of Assimilation and Diverging, I better understand the way I would steer my decisions. For example, in my organization when making a decision I tend to look through a more logical aspect and would make decisions based on critical reflection of past experiences and its end results. On the other hand, there are decisions that may require a wider and more in-depth approach and to simply imply logic may result in what Brooks (2009) described as the “illusion of
