Lady Macbeth's Guilty Conscience Analysis
There are probably few people in this world who can deny the feeling of guilt. Some call that sinking feeling in the pit of the stomach or nagging voice in their head their conscience speaking to them. Shakespeare related that feeling to Lady Macbeth's guilty conscience of King Duncan's murder. In Macbeth, Shakespeare shows how Lady Macbeth tries to suppress her guilt and her conscience eats away at her.

Shakespeare shows how Lady Macbeth is aware of what she is about to do. When she finds out that the witches have suggested Macbeth will be king, she decides he is too kind to act on his own to “take the nearest way” killing Duncan and becoming king so she wants Macbeth to come to her so she can “pour [her evil] spirits in [his] …show more content…

Lady Macbeth claimed that Macbeth second guessing killing king Duncan lead him to be afraid “art thou to be the same in thine own act and valour as thou art in desire.” Lady Macbeth comes and uses her manipulative ways to persuade Macbeth to go ahead in murdering the king. “If we fail?” “But screw Macbeth's courage to the sticking place and we shall not fail!” (1-7 pg.3) Lady Macbeth is taking no for an answer. She calls Macbeth a coward for being afraid to go with what Lady Macbeth told him to do. In Shakespeare's Macbeth Lady Macbeth and Macbeth both show signs of what would today be diagnosed as symptoms of schizophrenia. Macbeth could have taken a completely different path like bonque Macbeth’s best friend did. Instead he let the thought of having power get to him and become greedy and power hungry leading Macbeth to become afraid of his surroundings and began to think everyone was after him even the people he once cared for Shakespeare reveals Lady Macbeth as a psychotic

    Macbeth in the beginning of the play is a noble, humble and honourable person who, without question would sacrifice his life for the liberty of his King, Duncan. As the play progresses he attitude towards life in general changes completely, mainly due to the pressure that Lady Macbeth inflicts on him. However, Lady Macbeth has quite a surprising personality as she is not the stereotypical Elizabethan woman. Lady Macbeth is expected to be fragile, meek, innocent and comforting but in this unusual circumstance Lady Macbeth would very much rather “dashed the brains out” of an infant child. This is plain evidence to suggest that Lady Macbeth is of no stable condition. In addition to this surprising fact Lady Macbeth is cunning and bloodthirsty. She demands Macbeth in Act one, Scene Five to “look like th’innocent flower, but be the serpent under’t”. It is very common for a man to demand a female to pursue tasks but for a woman to demand a man, especially of something like sacrilege, is very unusual.
