Lady Macbeth's Character Analysis
(Enter Lady Macbeth)

Lady Macbeth
The alcohol that made the guards drunk has made me confident. What quenched their thirst has set me on fire. Listen!- Peace.
It was the owl that shrieked, the town crier that announces the death of people. Macbeth should be doing his part.
The doors to Duncan’s room are open and the guards are drunk and asleep when they should be guarding the king. I have drugged them so much that it is hard to tell if they are dead or alive.

Macbeth
Who’s there? What’s going on?

Lady Macbeth
Damn, I think the guards woke up
And the king has not yet been killed. Just trying to kill the king and not actually killing him puts us in a very difficult position.
Listen!- I set out the daggers, there’s no way Macbeth missed them.

Lady Macbeth Yes.

Macbeth Listen!- Who’s in the second chamber?

Lady Macbeth Donalbain.

Macbeth This is terrible.

Lady Macbeth That’s stupid.

Macbeth One of the guards laughed in his sleep and another one yelled “Murder!” They woke each other up. I stood there and listened to them. But then they said their prayers and fell asleep again.

Lady Macbeth Two of them are sleeping in the same room.

Macbeth One said “God bless us” and the other said “Amen” As is they had seen me with my bloody hands, Hearing the fear in their voice. I couldn’t bring myself to say “Amen” After they said “God bless us.”

Lady Macbeth Don’t think about it too much.

Macbeth But why couldn’t I say “Amen”? I needed God’s blessing and the word “Amen” was stuck in my throat.

Lady Macbeth We can not think about what we have done or else we will go crazy.

Macbeth I thought I heard a voice say “Sleep no more!
Macbeth does murder sleep”- the innocent sleep,
Sleep that takes care of our worries,
That ends each day, that restores us physically and mentally, life’s main course,
The main food of life.

Lady Macbeth What do you mean?

Macbeth The voice still said “Sleep no more!” to everyone in the

I’m afraid to think about what I did. I don’t want to see what I did.

Lady Macbeth
You’re useless. Give me the daggers. Those asleep and dead look just like a picture which can’t hurt you. If Duncan bleeds more I’ll just smear it on the guards to make it seem like it was them who killed Duncan.

(Lady Macbeth exits with the daggers)

Macbeth Where is the knocking coming from? Why does every sound make me scared?
Look at these hands! Ha, they look as if they pulled out my eyes. Will all the water in the ocean wash away the blood on my hands? No, I have so much blood on my hands that the green sea would become bloody.

(Enter Lady Macbeth)

Lady Macbeth My hands are covered in blood like yours but I would be ashamed to be as weak as you. (Knock)

I heard knocking from the south entry. We should go to our room. A little water will erase all evidence. How easy is that? You’re acting crazy.

(Knock) Listen, more knocking. Put on your nightgown in case someone calls for us and asks why we are still awake. Stop thinking about it so much.

Macbeth I don’t recognize myself, but knowing what I did, I would not want to know myself.

(Knock) Wake up with the knocking duncan. I wish you would wake up.

“Tongue nor heart cannot conceive nor name thee!” (2.3. 74). Thy greatest king hath been murdered. Thoughts of sorrow and wondering have filled thee. Who wouldst do such a thing? Was thy host not watchful enough with the most honored man in his presence? Maybe thou should have stayed with his Majesty for he is of the highest nobility and honor possible. Who ever hath committed this crime is guilty of murder and treason. Oh! The people, the people! What shall become of them without thy leader? Will the criminals roam the streets, with the people fearing to leave their homes? All of these are questions with no answers! I do believe it’s my turn to step in and allow myself the privilege of discovering which fiend it was that hath murdered his Majesty, the king. At first, it was thought to be the beast like guards who stood outside the king’s chamber. It deeply concerns me as to why Macbeth would dispose of them so soon after the death of his royal highness without the chance to probe their minds with questions and make them face the rest of Scotland as those whom betrayed their leader. Maybe it was the sons of the great Duncan which have set up the murderous plot to gain the throne for their own selfish purpose. The fact that they have left the country and fled in opposite directions is beyond my knowledge. If they wanted to be king, why murder your own father and flee to a different country…? What about the recently promoted Thane of Cawdor? He holds much too great of an honor and sincerely respected Duncan. But still, he did murder the guards; maybe he was hiding something like a vital piece of information. Now that I think of it, if I had been the one in Macbeth’s position, I too may have lost my temper. In the wise words of Macbeth, “Who can be wise, amazed, temp’rate, and furious,/ Loyal, and neutral, in a moment? No man.” (2.3. 27-28).…

Macbeth is a murderous heathen, whom sought to heighten himself to the rank of King by betraying the country (already stated this), his King and god. An earlier witness; one of Macbeth’s “Loyal” servants, (the gentle woman) stated that he had heard Macbeth whispering “I go, and it is done. The bell invites me. Hear it not, Duncan, for it is a knell that summons thee to heaven or to hell.” Obviously scared of Macbeth’s murderous mind, the servant stayed quiet until now. There were more witnesses as of yesterday, as a cutthroat hired by Macbeth told the jury of the atrocities he had performed, before being dragged off to be executed. To quote; the murderer said “Macbeth threatened me with a certain death if I were to betray him. That was just a shimmer of the murderer within him.” The prosecution would also like to point out that straight after Duncan’s body was found, Macbeth killed the two intoxicated guards, blaming these poor innocent men for the murder, and also dispatching of two possible witnesses. Macbeth did also state “O, yet I do repent me of my fury, that I did kill them.” In stating “them”, Macbeth could have been referring to both the murdered slaves and our fair King Duncan. Macbeth also insinuated that the drunken guards murdered Duncan in his sleep, but if you look and think, and I am sure you are all intelligent Lords and Ladies, a drunken guard cannot…

Once, I have taken everything in I sit down at my assigned seat at the lengthy table. I'm merely four seats away from the king. He appeared so elegant in his coronation attire. Although everyone was celebrating not a single frown in sight, King Macbeth seemed odd. He was sweating profusely and had a face of shock. It seemed like he saw a ghost. I'm startled as I hear a quarrel. I turned my head to where the commotion was coming from, I notice King Macbeth doing what seems to be talking to himself. His scream is incoherent but loud enough to capture the attention of everyone at the dinner. the dining room fell silent and heads turned in his direction, the drop of a pin could be…
