Shakespeare’s Hamlet is the most renowned play, over 400 years old and still the new season trend. Eat your heart out Vera Wang. Shakespeare has crafted a lasting masterpiece featuring distrusting Prince Hamlet struggling to find a trustful confidant, ironically surrounded by distrustful characters. Hamlet poses thought-provoking philosophical questions, a key one being ‘who can I trust?’

Just trust me. We’ve all heard that before. My dear friend Chloe assured me I looked great in that dress. I did not. I spent the whole night self-conscious and feeling lied to. I don’t trust her style advice anymore. Maybe it wasn’t as serious as your-mother-married-your-uncle-who-killed-your-father scenario but I bet Hamlet felt the same amount of rage and distrustfulness as I did that night. If trust determines the quality of a relationship then, Queen Gertrude you’re in trouble. Hamlet’s quest for a trustworthy confidant starts and ends very quickly with Gertrude. It outrages us to see a mother disregard her sons grieving and find a new hubby while “but two months dead” (I, ii, 139) was her last one.
