The experimented value was drastically different from the accepted value, which caused the percent of error to be extraordinarily high. The experimental marshmallow’s energy per gram was .073 Cal/g while the accepted marshmallow’s energy per gram was 3.33 Cal/g. The percent error for the marshmallow was 97.8%. The experimental CHEEZ-IT’s energy per gram was .531 Cal/g while the accepted CHEEZ-IT’s energy per gram was 5 Cal/g. The CHEEZ-IT’S percent error was 90%. The experimental Cheetos’ energy per gram was 1.08 Cal/g where the accepted Cheetos’ energy per gram was 5.36 Cal/g. The percent error for the Cheetos’ was 79.9%. The experimental Chex-Mix’s energy per gram was 1.52 Cal/g where the accepted Chex-Mix’s energy per gram was 4 Cal/g. The Chex-Mix’s percent error was 60%. The conclusion that was made was that through out the entire experiment there was a tremendous amount of error made due to the fact that the percent error was incredibly high.
An inference that was made was the Chex-Mix and the CHEEZ-IT burned the fastest, while the Marshmallow and Cheetos burned a tad bit slower. Another

The underlining purpose of the experiment was to show that error is ok as long as you know what the flaws are and be able to explain they happened. The lab involved burning a Marshmallow, a CHEEZ-IT, a Cheeto, and A Chex. The heat from the burning snack food is then carried into the H2O and used to calculate the energy content. An improvement that could be made was a replacement for the paperclip; it was difficult to balance the paperclip and sample combination, a skewer connected to the table would be a better option. Another improvement could placing the sample inside a Coke Can that is cut in half with holes punctured-to keep the oxygen flow-then place the original Coke Can calorimeter on top of that to help trap in more of the heat producing a more accurate

    Cheetos are cornmeal snacks with a variety of different flavors. Invented in 1948 by Charles Elmer Doolin, who owned Frito Lay. In the experiment we will be using Flaming Hot Cheetos. A crunchy but yet spicy little snack. In a bag of Flamin Hot Cheetos, Frito Lay’s states it has 160 cal per 28 grams (fritolay.com). Using the cheetos we will record the mass of each cheetos used in each trial using a scale. Once we have calculated each cheetos mass we will record it on a chart. After measuring each cheetos we will then begin the experiment by first putting 20 ml of water in each tube. Then we will place the thermometer and record the start temperature of each trial. Then we will place the tube to the flame with different height differences with each trial (2 in, 3 in, and 4 in). When each reaction is placed we will then record the highest temperature the water heated too. Then we will measure the the cheeto and record the after reaction mass. Then using the nutritional value 160 cal per 28 grams we will use the equation (accepted - experimental divided by accepted multiplied by 100) to get the percent error.     For example, the oxygen sensor did not give the exact percentage of oxygen unless given enough time to process the contents of the flask. If the percentages were taken as soon as it was inserted into the flask, then the experiment would be extremely inaccurate. In addition to this, the amount of time taken to transport the test tubes from the location where it was heated/cooled and the location where the testing took place was far enough to where the test tube could heat up/ cool down in the process of transportation. In order to fix it (or at least minimize the damage done), the transportation time was reduced as best as possible. One error that was made had to do with the measuring of the catalase. It was not measured correctly for the first few trials and had to be redone. Another problem that arose was the amount of time given in comparison to the amount of trials required. It was time-consuming at first, but a process was established after some time and the work became very efficient. One limitation of the experiment was the fact that not all cows have a temperature of 104°, and if the highest functioning temperature of the enzyme had a correlation to the average temperature of the cow, then it wouldn’t be as accurate as possible. This could’ve been prevented by testing temperatures that are very close to 104°, but the amount of levels of IV would then become too high and the amount of time it would take to test it would be far too much. This information can be useful in the real world as well. If a cow or any warm-blooded animal had noticeable sickness, the temperature can possibly be the issue and action should be taken to insure that if that is the case then the amount of oxygen produced returns back to normal again.
