Korean Wave
Japan-mania and Korean-waves cultural marketing had influenced many countries including Taiwan, South East Asia and some other parts in the world. Japan-mania started earlier than Korean-wave in Taiwan and other parts of the world since, Japan recovered and its economics revolution after World War II was faster and rapid than Korea. In Malaysia, in early 2000s, Japanese trendy dramas came into picture as Takuya Kimura is one of the favourite actor, which it attracted teenager’s viewers more than family. Then, Korean dramas became the most favourite television series watched by Malaysian regardless race and religion. It started with Winter Sonata, continued with Autumn in My Heart, then another hits drama from Korea, Full House haunted Malaysians with tears, emotions, tragic love and lessons.
However, the impact of Korean-wave is bigger than Japan-mania. Korean-wave conquered most of the countries, especially in Asia and now spreading their wings into South America and other parts of the world. Korean-wave is successful for the melodramatic dramas, which mainly focus on love and family matters and each drama usually recorded approximately for 16 episodes. Japan’s trendy drama usually focuses on teenagers and social problems. Particularly in drama or film, Korean actors are more masculine compared to Japanese which look younger and skinnier. But both Korean and Japanese actors are good looking. Korean actresses are womanly, sophisticated and beautiful but Japanese actresses are more cute, girlish and projecting more personalities. However, Japanese actresses usually have crooked teeth.
However, Japan-mania is superior in comic, cartoons or games. Japanese comics/manga such as Dragon Ball, Detective Conan and many more had been adapted into cartoons and they had been called “anime”. Japanese made manga, anime and video games as their industry which it spread to the whole world. The Americans, Europeans, Latinos, Asians and all races enjoyed anime or Japanese related
