Kingdom Hall
Kingdom Hall, Maindy, Cardiff What do we think when we say Jehovah Witness??? Jehovah's Witnesses are best known for their door-to-door preaching, distributing literature such as The Watchtower and Awake!, and refusing military service and blood transfusions.
Background Information: Worship
Meetings for worship and study are held at Kingdom Halls, which are typically functional in character, and do not contain religious symbols. (In John 5:21 Guard yourself from Idols)
The meetings scheduled by congregation elders are largely devoted to study of Watch Tower Society literature and the Bible. The format of the meetings is established by the religion's headquarters, and the subject matter for most meetings is the same worldwide. Congregations meet for two sessions each week comprising five distinct meetings that total about three-and-a-half hours, typically gathering mid-week (three meetings) and on the weekend (two meetings). Their most important and solemn event is the commemoration of the "Lord's Evening Meal", or "Memorial of Christ's Death" on the date of the Jewish Passover. (Easter)!
The Anointed was appointed by God, Jehovah himself in 1914 and it is said that when all of the anointed die then the end of the world shall come.
Preconceptions
Although before a faith visit you are supposed to be open minded, I had many pre conceptions about what I was to expect at the Kingdom Hall.
For example, these include;
The congregation being a more high percentage of Old People.
I expected that the service would be boring and repetitive.
I expected the organisation to be strict/orthodox in their views.
Finally I expected members of the congregation to be well dressed and very polite.
Experience
I participated in the Watch Tower Study service held at 10:00 on a Sunday at Maindy, Cardiff’s Kingdom hall.
I walked into the Kingdom Hall, and was welcomed by one of the Elders. I was sat at the back of the Kingdom hall as I was only observing the service.

On February 28, 2010, I went on a fieldtrip to a Methodist church called Muir’s Chapel United Methodist Church (UMC). The church was founded in 1822 when Jeremiah Dodson, a local preacher from the west, held services under brush arbors and the shade of oak trees on the grounds. The church grounds were located behind where the current building is located at 314 Muir's Chapel Road Greensboro, NC 27410. After his services and charge began, the charge was organized and passed on to the Reverend Thacker Muir. Reverend Muir cut the first log for the first structure known as the “Log Meeting House.” In Reverend Muir’s honor the name was changed to Muir’s Chapel.…

The Jehovah’s Witnesses is a modern-day cult that adheres to Gnostic beliefs and legalistic practices. It is considered a cult because it tries to correct another religion. In this case the religion that it is trying to correct is Christianity. The cult was formed by Charles Russell in the late nineteenth century as a spit-off from the Adventist movement. There Russell and his early successors were involved in a few unfulfilled prophecies of Armageddon which almost caused the movement’s following to completely fall away. Under the leadership of Frederick Franz in the 1970s, the movement began to move away from these prophecies and come back together.…

For my field trip to another religion’s worship service, I chose to visit the Beth El Congregation Synagogue in Baltimore, Maryland. I have family members that are a part of the Jewish community, but I had never attended service with them until this experience. The Bel El Congregation is a progressive synagogue that is affiliated with United Synagogue. I arrived early to see if I could find someone to show me around so I felt more acquainted with the happenings around me. Lucky for me, there was a kind woman who acted as the synagogue’s receptionist for this particular Friday. She was nice enough to to give me a short tour as well as a little information on synagogues before the service started.…

On October 31, 2015, I attended serves at a synagogue in Tucson, Az. The synagogue was not all that special, not like churches with the tall bell towers and huge cathedral area. The synagogue was small, with one set of windows on the other side cross from the entrance and the chairs were in a circle around the alter. For the service the men have to were head coverings, but the head covering were different colors, I do wonder if the color has and meaning to the person who’s wearing the covering. I wish I had gone to a popular service so I could have seen more interactions with people of different ages. I know that in a church service you can’t go up for communion unless you have make you first communion, I wonder does that apply to a synagogue…

Ignoring the uncomfortable feeling that I had attending the meeting, the congregation was very friendly and very welcoming. In fact, I felt more accepted than I did visiting any Christian church in Marion. Christians are welcoming but at Kingdom Hall there was no awkward alone time, almost every person in the congregation welcomed me and introduced himself or herself. The bible study started by singing a hymn and then they continued studying the book of Jeremiah from their previous meetings. Meetings usually take place on Thursday night and Sunday Mornings. The bible study consisted of a volunteer reading from a Watch Tower Society publication. Then the elder proceeded to ask questions about the reading and volunteers from the congregation would answer. Something that stood out to me was that they refer to each other as brother and sister. This is uncommon in protestant congregations.…

Did you know that by our everyday habits and choices, the average American puts out 22 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year? Experts studying the recent climate history of the earth agree now that global warming is occurring at a precipitous rate, and human activities are the dominant force driving the trend. Our smokestacks, tailpipes, and burning forests emit CO2 and other gasses that add to the planet’s natural greenhouse effect, allowing sunlight in, but preventing some of the resulting heat from radiating back to space. Many climate experts say that without big curbs in greenhouse gas emissions, the 21st century could see temperatures rise 3 to 8 degrees, weather patterns sharply shift, ice sheets shrink, and seas rise several feet. The problem of global warming seems overwhelming, but there is a lot you can do to help. Reducing your personal share of global warming emissions is easier than you think.…

By just stepping into the parking lot, I could tell that the members dressed casually, because there were no dresses or ties. On the contrary, the congregation showed great formality through their emotions and actions during their Lord’s Day routine. For example, no one spoke unless they were reading, praying, or singing. The Catholics were very socially involved with each other too just like a family would be.…
