Kiersten Separ: A Short Story
It was just going to be a simple scavenge at an abandoned military base. It seemed safe enough. There was a pack of old bandages in one of the crates, however, most of them were already rotten. Heading towards the 5-ton, the gorgeous M939 U.S. Army truck, he rummaged under the hood for a good battery back in its day it was probably used to carry personnel and supplies to destinations all across this land. Now it lies rusting, quietly whispering war stories in its carcass, waiting for someone to listen.
Suddenly, a loud scream disrupted the once peaceful scenario. There was a movement in his peripherals, something scrambled into the rusty quonset to his left. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up. He followed suit, a pistol in his hand. He paused before entering the building, something then attacked him, its hands clawing at his

The center seems misplaced in the city of Missoula, with the hundred acres of pastures, fields, and livestock. Wildeboer is most interested in agriculture, he has a background with ten years in 4H and he decided to join Future Farmers of America as the next step in his career. Kiersten Separ who’s known Wildeboer since third grade stated, “ He’s wholeheartedly, passionate, and dedicated to 4H,” he’s always involved with traveling and leadership opportunities that 4H provides, “[Wildeboer] is a State Ambassador, but he also has a lot of small level impacts in the organization.” He also attends the Agriculture Education class at Bigsky High school. According to the USDA 41% of Americans were involved in agriculture in 1900. Today, “less than two percent of Americans are farmers,” says Wildeboer, he hopes to make an impact on an agriculture level within the community. Agriculture education has taught him more real world experiences than in any classroom due to traveling and hands on community

Peter slammed his office door and ruptured another splinter on its face like the thousands that plagued it. His shaky hands fixed three locks across the door that jarred into their familiar cradles. He dragged his chair through the cracked grooves in the floorboards and collapsed into it with a sigh. The paperwork on his desk was minimal. It was the nightmare garden he tended to every night once the children were dreaming, and his wife curled against her own skin, embraced by icy cotton sheets. The common thread that ties more than a century of wheat farming together in the Kalcevic family is perseverance. With agriculture experience that starts with memories of feeding team horses to hitch to moldboard plows to prepare the fields for planting, brothers Jim and John Kalcevic’s farming story is one of family, innovation, and most importantly, perseverance. As the third generation of Kalcevic Family Farms, Jim and Johnny have seen the agricultural industry transform from an enterprise of “Just wanting to feed your own family,” says Jim, to quite literally helping to provide food for the world. When asked how they have been able to keep the family business successful through five generations, Jim and Johnny are in agreement: honor…

Many are aware of the nineteenth century aphorism, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” It is with similar principle that an Ohio farmer, Dan West, founded Heifers for Relief in 1944. In 1938, while ladling out milk to starved child refugees of the Spanish Civil War, West thought to himself, “These children don’t need a cup, they need a cow.” Heifer International is a nonprofit organization set with the perseverance of eradicating poverty and hunger through education, giving, and communal improvement. Not only does Heifer distribute livestock to needy families worldwide, but the esteemed organization also provides training in husbandry, with the intention of promoting self-sufficiency.…

    How FFA Changed My Life

Year after year, I walk through the Fort Worth Stock Show areas such as holding pins, arenas, and the fairgrounds. Through the journeys, I gain an appreciation for all the hard work and dedication that these people have put into the fair and how it is changing people's lives. Going back to freshman year, like it was yesterday, I remember how I did not want to be a part of FFA and was forced to take an agriculture class. What I didn't realize was how wrong I was about agriculture classes and FFA. After the second day, I quickly immersed myself in FFA after seeing all it offered to me.…

The man awakened on the cold ground, strewn in a horrible position across the autumn leaves and grass. His back was to the ground, his limbs spread out, and all he could feel was the pain. It ached all over his body, and an odd sensation came from the head and neck, though he could not describe it. He attempted to scream, groan, or make some noise to relieve his suffering, but none came out. Or rather an unfamiliar, strangled sound emerged, one that was guttural, almost inhuman.…

    Zenda Farm Swot Analysis

The first assignment that I completed as part of the Honors Seminar was the summer assignments. The summer assignments included the papers that we had to write, the SWOT analysis, the assigned readings, and the visit to a farm that offered agritourism. The most notable part of the summer assignment was the visit to the farm in my home-state, Connecticut, to compare to Zenda Farms. I feel that visiting the farm over the summer was very useful because the visit allowed for me to draw major parallels between the farm I visited and Zenda. Both farms were in the beginning of their journeys to becoming a large and sustainable farm, also both farms have limited financial income and few workers at their possession.…

Klara grimaced a little at his next question. It was not like she was hated by the town. In fact, Klara had a fairly decent reputation within the town with the farmers, Innkeeper and the Mayor. No, she grimaced at the fact the townspeople were the ones to worry about. He was concerned, rightfully so, about her when Orin should be focused on them.…

It had been preceded by a much louder pop, and then a zing – a noise that, under normal circumstances, I might have mistaken for the buzz of a fly – they were close. I took off, crunching along the gravel of the side road. Thirty-seven, thirty-eight… I sighed with relief. Thirty-nine Newman Drive. I did as I had been told – tweeted twice like a canary and once like a robin. I stood there impatiently, nervously, waiting for the door to clang open. I decided to knock – still no response. I looked over my shoulder and saw that they had finally made it around the corner – I let out a grunt of annoyance and, turning away from the door, continued my run. It was cut short by the screech of tires, the slam of a door, and the crackling zap of electricity the Taser sent coursing through my body. The agony was repeated, and I slipped into…
