It all started four years ago when I joined JROTC. I wanted to see how it worked and how it was beneficial to me. I must admit it was difficult in the beginning with being shy and not knowing what exactly I got myself into but that quickly changed once I started going to parades and football games. Surprisingly, I actually started to enjoy being in JROTC. Along the years, JROTC helped me achieve a lot by making me work harder for what I wanted and by showing me what leadership was all about. Gaining leadership changed everything. Not only did I had to start putting a standard on myself but I also had to start showing others and my instructors what I was capable of. Before I started doing community service I really didn’t care about others. I was just in my own world and just doing things that weren’t that beneficial for me and others. But that changed once I started to know other people’s situations. Realizing what the people who I was helping went through helped me have a change of heart. It made me care about others and understand how they felt. I love doing community service especially when I expect nothing in return. I want to help because I want to make a change in other people’s lives. I also want to help others in need and be there for them. I want them to know what it feels like to be loved and be cared for. I don’t want them to give up. I want them to have a better life. By seeing the people who I am helping smile is amazing because I am actually accomplishing what I wanted to since the beginning, which is helping others have hope and faith that no matter what everything will get better. I am glad I joined JROTC because without it, I wouldn’t have been doing community service and helping
