John Holland Careers and Personality
Even though I have never considered the fact that my personality type may reflect on the type of job I enjoy, nor have I ever tired to match myself to a job depending on my personality, I have been doing it my whole life through. As I have said before in another discussion I was borne and raised on a farm and I have always been an on hands type of person as well as no stranger to physical labor. After examining John Holland Careers and Personality it is very obvious that my personality does match my careers, both past, present, and if all goes well in the future as well. With this being said I fall in the category of being realistic, in which I like to solve concrete problems, work with my hands and/or tools, and as I said before physical labor is a close friend of mind. As for the social activity jobs, I can do them but to be honest I would rather be left alone while I’m working. So therefore my personality is of a realistic one. As for the jobs I have worked throughout my life, granted they were not major careers, just about all of them in one form or another fit into the characteristics of a realistic personality. From being raised on a farm/ranch, working in construction for a couple of years, working in the lumber mill during peak seasons, working as a cable field technician, and even working in numerous kitchens as a prep cook and sauté chef I have always enjoyed being able to work with my hands and work in fast past, physical jobs. I have tired a couple of desk jobs and even retail jobs but after a year or so I would start to get stir crazy and would want to get away from all the customers/people. As of now I am head cook of a seafood restaurant where my duties are, coming in early to make a prep list of what needs to be made, setting the kitchen up before anyone else shows up, unloading and inspecting the seafood when it arrives daily, as well as cooking and prepping some of the items on the menu before and after we open. I am always on a very tight a

George Draper Dayton opened up Goodfellow Dry Goods in Minneapolis in 1902. When he was younger, his father couldn’t afford to send him to college because he would offer his services to poor people. So Dayton left home to go work. He was such a workaholic, however, that he had some health issues and so he had to go back home. There, he became a banker and soon enough, he had enough money so he bought the Bank of Worthington. He changed the name multiple times; first to Dayton Dry Goods Company, then to Dayton Company, then Dayton Hudson Corporation, then Target Corporation later on. He was a very active Presbyterian so the rules in his store were encouraged by his beliefs, like no liquor was sold there, it was closed on Sundays, and no ads about liquor in the newspapers he sold. That didn’t slow down or stop his business though. In 1938, he dies and his son Nelson takes over the business. Nelson did a very good job at handling the…

Personality and job performances in the workplace are related. Have you heard of the big five factors? The big five factors are supposed to represent the beginning structure when it comes to all personality traits. The big five factors are mostly related with cooperating with other individuals amongst the workplace and about appreciating the workplace environment. The big five factors are: 1) Emotional stability, 2) Extraversion, 3) Openness, 4) Agreeableness, and 5) Conscientiousness. And of these five factors extraversion and conscientiousness are the two factors that determines and are responsible for positive job performances. But the one issue with the big five factor is that the results are based on jobs that are solely based on social interaction, jobs with not as much interaction with the individuals the big five factor has less impact of determining job performances. This is where cognitive abilities steps in because cognitive ability is brain based skills that each individual need to complete any task from the simplest to the most complex. A person with cognitive abilities perform just as good as or maybe even better than individuals who have favorable personality when it comes to working in a larger company where there is not too much interaction or socializing amongst the employees…

The type of personalities of every individual is very important. While doing an evaluation of myself using Jung Typology Test, I discovered that I was an ENFJ individual. My primary objective is identity seeking. My life consists of being a teacher or a giver. An ENFJ is an extraverted, iNtuitive, feeling, and judging person. “Each of the ENFJ’s preferences compound to make them a natural convincer. Their energy comes from the outwardly directed, socially oriented, gregarious external world (Extraversion). They prefer to perceive the world as having endless possibilities and meanings (iNtuition), which they use to make subjective, interpersonally based decisions (Feelings). They prefer to live their daily lives in a structured, scheduled, and orderly fashion (Judging), (Kroeger, Thuesen, & Rutledge, pg. 386).” This means that I have extraverted feelings with introverted intuitions. I am a people- focused individual. However, I am considered a smooth talker and very persuading. It is said that ENFJ’s are natural sales people. I found it funny that this statement is true. I am an insurance agent with Allstate. My everyday life…

My career spans a bit over 20 years in various administration positions in many different industries. Most of my career was spent in the manufacturing industry. In the beginning, for approximately 5 years, I was a receptionist, handling the most basic of responsibilities. Later began a stretch of time that I worked in an administration type of position as a planner and raw material control. This position allowed me to learn more of the industry, receiving the raw material, assigning it to appropriate work orders, and maintaining the flow of production on the raw material end. Finally, I moved into the area of accounting performing accounts payable for the freight side of a manufacturing company for around 7 years, which is where I found my desire to further my career. Those years of working in the accounting area has given me the confidence to move forward and push my career further.…

According to the personality test on 16personnality.com I am a Adventurer. So that means I am introverted, observant, feeling, prospecting, and turbulent. On 16personalities.com they say adventurers get bored easy at work if they aren't constantly doing something. It also says that they always have to be working or doing something. I strongly agree with this because I use to not work and I would get so bored just sitting around the house. So I got a job at a tanning salon and I really didn't like it because all I would do all day is just sit around. So I found another job at Fuglers Feed Trough as a waitress and I love it because I am constantly doing something. Also on 16personalities.com they said people with this personality are humble,…

I do not believe one can accurately sort individuals into these two categories alone, and fortunately the Careerfitter Career Test seemed to avoid this folly. In regards to myself, on a personal level I am empathetic and sociable, I relate to others with ease and take joy in being part of a team. I enjoy joking with my coworkers, I love meeting new people. But within or without the workplace, when faced with an issue, I am wholly pragmatic. I rely on objectivity and careful consideration to analyze and realize a solution to a problem. I derive great pleasure from seeing projects to their conclusion guided by the hand of reason, executed with thoughtful planning, and a structured process.…

The career interest profiler shows I am mostly investigative, with a score of 30. Considering my background, I strongly agree with the results. Investigative interest deals with thinking rather than working with or leading people. Investigative people tend to look for facts, and try to figure out problems. I am the type of person who likes to work alone, because it is the most efficient for me. Working alone allows me to think more comfortably, rather than discussing a solution with everyone.…

In doing my research on the Career Interest Profiler, It came up with many different positions with companies I would be good for allot of different social positions such as sales and marketing and I think that is wonderful because I am going for a degree in marketing as well as I am a very talkative person and would love to get a job in that field. The companies I could see working for is places like wal-mart because they are big with sales and different specials I would love the opportunity to work with a big company like that I am realistic in the fact I may not be office material however I am a people person and here are many different positions I could apply for marking with a discount store such as wal-mart grocery stores, target among other companies like that as well as There are other jobs like being a social worker. I am a very outgoing people person and I personally find anything to do with the public I could actually if I wanted to think of social worker as a marketing job for the simple reason is there are so many various types of social workers and they can look to work in various companies. I found it very interesting that in a assignment from last week that stated I would be suitable to work in the field of teaching as I love the thrill of competition My first passion as children there are our future and I could see myself as a teacher but for personal reasons I don't think that I could handle it because I have anxiety yes there is stress with marketing but you sit behind a computer or on the phone. I personally see myself as a loner so marketing would be great as long as I could do something for the public fast food is a position I hold now but really tests my patience. To make a long story short I really feel that a job is a job as long as you are happy even going for a degree whomever you are may decide that you want to work in another field.…

    Type Talk At Work

Often I prefer to work alone. Like any other introvert, given the choice I would spend my days crammed into an out of the way office doing tasks that require little interaction between myself and the other employees of my company. In fact, my last two positions with my current company have been such. The first of which was controlling our inventory, the second of which was in purchasing. According to my own managers I have been told that I have surpassed expectations in both due to my abilities to focus and work with little to no supervision. I have attributed this success to a strong sense of duty and motivation to follow through on the tasks given to me. Both of these traits are highlighted in Personalitypage.com…

The Jung Typology Test concludes that I am a “conservative.” The description of my personality type suggests that I “desire to be of service and to minister to individual needs”. It also states that I am an extrovert; a sensing, feeling, and perceiving type of person. This describes me perfectly because I am always trying to help others. Saving someone’s life could change your life and how you look at things. I could see myself doing this one day, changing my outlook on life. I feel the need to help others when they are in trouble, and this will help well with my choice of profession. The most important personality trait of a “conservative” and one which I possess is trustworthiness; you have to trust your partner or team with whatever it is you are working on. They have to be able to trust you and you have to be able to trust them. As also stated in The Jung Typology Test, I am loyal, a loyal person is someone you can trust. The second most important trait of a “conservative” is people skills, your always going to be working with all kinds of people in this career. You’re going to be working with people that are upset from the loss of a loved one, people that aren’t as nice as others, really all kinds. You are going to need to be prepared for…
