It has developed from a cold war/large war strategy to a peace keeping/small war strategy. DOD’s budget has been drastically cut, as well as associated personnel. The acquisition community has taken on the challenge to reform and modernize itself in order to perform efficiently in the present environment. This paper will discuss job overview, involvement in organizational policies and operations, historical development, ideal educational preparation, continuing education, compensation, present and future prospects, as well as advice for others. Job Overview What is your job supposed to do? For example, purpose, goals, activities, authorities, etc. I am currently employed as a Department of the Army Civilian for the Field Support Directorate, Software Engineering Center – Fort Belvoir, Army Communications Command (CECOM). My duty position is Software Field Deployment Specialist, DE-301-03. My duties include participation in defining assignments, identifying the work to be done and deadlines for completion. Plans and organizes the work; interprets regulations, applies new methods or procedures; and coordinates with others as necessary. I also perform assignments in technical support aspects of substantive mission-oriented programs of unusual difficulty and responsibility.
