Although we were a little more focused on shooting par this past weekend rather than the company, our recent meeting regarding the issue of maximizing energy efficiency has interested me into researching wind turbines and other sustainable practices. As a manager and colleague, I believe it is not in the company’s best interest investing into wind turbines at this time and also due to Carbondale’s low average wind speed. However, I believe there are alternative energy-saving options that could be implemented to lessen Groggs peak energy expenses and specifically reduce the company’s dependence on coal. Nowadays, many businesses are starting to focus more and more on environmental sustainability and implementing such practices would allow Groggs Peak to improve its commitment to corporate social responsibility while bettering customer loyalty. After conducting some research, I am excited to share my findings and alternative benefits for your proposal.…

Established in 1967, the Artemis Sportswear Company introduced its first official sports team jersey and currently continues to manufacture a wide array of athletic products and men and women’s clothing, ranging from team jerseys to sports equipment. Since then there has been a significant increase in business competition, together with stricter state policies and regulations, all of which have contributed to the current status of the company, and its slight decline in annual revenue. The company has been in profitable business for 45 years, and to remain a cost effective and lucrative business, the company will need to undergo drastic infrastructure modifications to offset the increasing utility costs associated with operating a company in Southern California and other high cost energy areas. Companies that implement energy-efficient measures outperform their competitors by as much as 10% (Flex Your Power, n.d.). The company is presently considering various restructuring options and renewable energy retrofits to ensure that it remains a profitable and successful company in the 21st century. The goal and objective of the company is to cut overhead…

In reference to the current business practices audit, Riordan Manufacturing has identified waste production and energy consumption as targets for sustainability efforts. To be specific, there will be an energy use reduction while increasing the use of renewable energy sources. Secondly, there will be a reduction of plastic waste production while increasing the recycling of this waste plastic. After reviewing the Riordan Manufacturing Intranet website, Riordan’s main cost of production is the price of energy. Because of this, the first best practice Riordan should implement is the installation of solar panels. To offset the cost, Riordan will install solar panels at all locations, including their corporate offices. Riordan must keep in the mind the cost of implementation, maintenance, and target metrics. In the beginning on this implementation, Riordan will seek low interest loans. Each location will monitor total outside energy consumption against the month of the previous year on an annual basis to ensure compliance and success. Success will be decided on the effectiveness of Riordan’s employees to reduce its reliance on outside energy and decrease the impact on the environment.…

The rubber band car is a car powered by a single rubber band. Energy efficiency is the amount of energy that is first stored in an object. The physic's definition of energy efficiency is very similar. Their term is the linear distance traveled using the energy stored in one rubber band. Energy efficiency is usually found when an object's energy transfers into a different type of energy. For us to find this, we have to attach a rubber band onto the car and release the rubber band to make the car move forward. The physic's definition is very reasonable because the rubber is the main and only source of energy that is applied to the car.…

David Newman began the scenic drive back from Millipore’s manufacturing plant in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, to his office at corporate headquarters in the Boston suburbs. He had spent the morning with the plant’s engineers touring their latest solutions to increase recycling of water and chemicals in the manufacturing process. Newman was encouraged by how many innovative ideas were emerging at the Jaffrey plant and Millipore’s other facilities to improve their environmental performance, and was delighted that most of the ideas also reduced operating costs to such an extent that the investments required had short payback periods. It was another example of how far the company had come in the two years since Millipore’s Chairman, CEO, and President Martin Madaus had announced his desire to shift the company onto a path toward environmental sustainability. After receiving some positive feedback from the few senior managers with whom he initially shared this idea, Madaus had moved ahead by creating a Sustainability Initiative and appointing Newman to a new role of director of sustainability to lead the development and implementation of the corporate-wide initiative. Since then, Newman had been working with engineers and managers at Millipore facilities around the world to develop and implement projects to reduce the company’s environmental impacts. These efficiency projects had reduced electricity consumption by over 5 million kilowatt hours (KWh) per year, eliminated the need for 35,000 therms of natural gas per year, and reduced water consumption by 113 million gallons per year.…
