Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez

Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is a soccer player who plays for Manchester United and the Mexican National team . He was born in Guadalajara, Mexico . He began playing in a league when he was seven years old . His father was formerly a striker for the Mexican national team . His father even admitted that he never believed his son had a chance to go pro . At only age nine, Chicharito joined a local club, C.D. Guadalajara . And at only fifteen he signed his first professional contract . In 2005 Javier was set to play in the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship, but do to an injury he was unable to be a part of the eventual victorious Mexican team . Hernandez’s debut for Mexico was in September 2009 . This was a match against Colombia . He also played for Mexico at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup . He was the leading scorer in the tournament with 7 goals . In addition he was named the MVP of the tournament . At only age twenty-five, Hernandez is the third highest goal-scorer in the Mexican national team’s history . Hernandez went on to become the first ever Mexican player signed by Manchester United. Manchester United discovered Javier Hernandez in October 2009 . A Manchester scout went to Mexico that December and in the few games he watched, he saw plenty of potential on top of his already array of talent . Because of Hernandez's young age, the Manchester planned on waiting before making a move to sign him . But, due to the fact that he was probably going to be playing with the national team at the World Cup, Manchester was forced into snatching him up before he was able to showcase his talents in the most watched sporting event in the world . United's head scout, Jim Lawlor, was sent on a final mission to Mexico for three weeks in February and March to watch Hernandez for a final time to see if he was consistent in his play .
