It was going to be a short ride only about 4 hours altogether through the South Dakota mountains. About an hour into our ride, we reached the mountains and as soon as we did Brody, Eli, Maddy, and I rode our horses to the top of the mountains. When we reached the top of the mountains we got off our horses and looked out over the South Dakota scenery, it was a beautiful view. I have never seen a better view in my life. You could see so far since we were up so high in the air and when we looked down at Tommy and Cassie they looked like ants. After we took a few pictures we headed back down to Tommy and Cassie. We went a little further after we got down from the mountain and then we turned back and headed towards camp. We arrived back at camp we washed, fed, and watered the horses. When we were done with that stuff we made a fire and started carving on sticks for a competition we were having and then at about 11 we went to…

Two friends and I climbed out of a car, stretching our legs and gathering our luggage. It was Sunday, and the end of our two day journey from my hometown in Connecticut to The Summit, a high adventure/service Boy Scout camp in West Virginia. Two days before the start of spring break, the excitement was overwhelming. While we were preparing for career day in sixth grade, I was too excited to pay attention, and I accidentally signed up to listen to a nuclear engineer(boring). When I got home, I packed everything I needed and went to bed an hour early, hoping Hawaii would be here faster if I went to sleep earlier. But I was an idiot and didn’t think about how I was not going to be able to sleep, so I sat in the bed until one o’clock in the morning. Three hours later, it was time to get up and go to the airport. We were on the plane in less than four hours. When we were…

I opened the door to enter the Orlando International Airport and my mouth dropped. It was 8 am and the airport was packed with people moving in every direction. There was nowhere to sit or rest. I could hear people yelling, cars honking, soft music playing, etc. (Sensory details) I was surprised that it was this packed, and a little irritated since the only reason I picked such an early flight back to Illinois was to avoid long lines at the airport. I could feel my palms sweat as I looked at the airport’s map to figure out where to go first. I looked at Sasha, my friend who was making sure I knew what I was doing, and waited for her to say something. As she looked around, I began to panic. I felt my heart tightened and I had to take a few deep breaths so I did not freak out. I was very nervous to navigate around this huge airport; especially since I have the worst sense of direction, and I always get lost whenever I have to go somewhere alone. After I calmed down, I knew what I had to do first. (Hyperbole)…

I step out of the car to hear the sound of planes starting up their engines and racing down the runway. I look up and imagine myself, soaring above the clouds and into the sky. As I walk into the airport and wait in line to check my bags, a wave of both nervousness and excitement rushes over me. I think about all the possibilities of meeting new people and experiencing a whole new culture. My daydream is interrupted when the ticket agent calls me up to check my bags. A flash of nervousness succumbs me, as I fear my suitcase is over the weight limit but I am reassured and I find myself being handed my boarding pass and walking towards the security line. Before I reach it, I turn to my tearful mother and she wraps me into a hug. “Now don’t forget to text me as soon as you can, okay? I love you so much and I’ll see you in two weeks, be safe…

I was so scared about going on my first plane ride. It was August 13, 2014. Last night I stayed awake the entire night thinking about a plane crash. In the morning I was about close to having a fever because of the sweat I had. If we made it to Salt Lake City, alive I would be happy. I felt really bad for my dad because we couldn’t afford a ticket for a trip to Salt Lake City and back. So my mom and I went on 1 in a lifetime around close to the Midwest. We went from Salt Lake City, Utah to Idaho, to Yellowstone, Wyoming to Montana to South Dakota and saw the following presidents heads, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Roosevelt. We went to the battle of Black Hills, then we went to the Snake river. Then, we left for…

Getting on an airplane, which I had never been on before, in itself was very nerve-wracking. When I stepped off the plane into London, an amazing feeling rushed through me, I felt alive. This experience was one of those that someone would describe as once in a lifetime. From the views on the London Eye, to getting to see Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and the Eiffel Tower with its sparkling, eye-catching lights at night, all of these experiences and more made me so appreciative of everything I’ve ever received in my life. I cherish those memories, because I have no idea if I will ever get to go back…

Early on a cold, snowy Saturday morning, my FCA group and I are ready to strap in and head to the airport for departure. New Hampshire is our longed destination. Our trip is based around getting closer as a family of friends and more importantly growing closer with our relationship with God himself. As we say out goodbyes to our remaining family members and friends; I see my mom start to cry. She’s always been emotional when comes to me being gone for a long period of time. I hug her tight, telling her I love her and she refuses to let go. Finally, we all pile on to the smelliest, most ragged out bus the school would let us drive and off we went. To help pass time on what seemed to be the longest bus ride of our lives we all begin to sing and play games among each other. Spending this time laughing with all of my friends is like no other. The feeling of chemistry in the air is almost as if we had known each other all our lives. Suddenly, we arrive at the airport in Charlotte, NC. Finally, we can get something to feed this lion of a stomach I hear growling. As we unload all of our bags our group leaders begin to split us up in groups so that we can be easily found in the overly crowded airport. My friend and I take a glance at each other, reading each other’s minds. We both race towards the ravishing smell of doritos locos tacos from the world famous taco bell. The…

“Wow,” was all I could say from the backseat of my mother’s BMW, nervously clenching my seatbelt strap with my right hand. Riding in the backseat westbound on Hwy 285 headed for Atlanta Airport, I started to realize this is it. I am actually about to get on a plane for the first time to Hawaii. As excited as I was, I was not prepared for everything that was about to happen. Before the flight, the flight, and the aftermath of the flight left unforgettable memories for me.…
