J Curcas Latex Extract Lab Report
The efficiency of J.curcas latex extract as potential antiparasite was tested against L3 H.contortus. In vitro anthelmintic activity of J.curcas was observed based on its ability to inhibit L3 H.contortus larval motility. Table## showed the larval inhibition (%) of J. curcas latex extract at various concentration against L3 H.contortus. To assess the anthelmintic performance of the plant, L3 H.contortus was exposed with the latex extract at concentration of 5mg/ml, 10mg/ml, 15mg/ml, 20mg/ml and 25mg/ml. The larvae were incubated for 48, 72 and 96 hours and the results were shown in Fig ##.

However, the positive control produced unexpected result where, albendazole at concentration 20mg/ml generated much lesser larval motility inhibition than the natural product used. At 96 hour incubation time, the result of positive control at 20mg/ml concentration was the same with the result generated by the latex extract of J.curcas at 5mg/ml concentration, which there is significant difference. Hence, the results provide further support for the hypothesis that J.curcas latex has a potent property to be antiparasite.
In general, through the observation made, the movements of the larvae were much slower and less active after incubated with J.curcas latex extract as compared to when the larvae were exposed to the albendazole. As the time increased, the larval motility was observed to be much slower. This might be due to the effect exerted by the latex extract. It was also observed, that the larvae were prolonging coiling themselves even after being exposed to the light and heat. According to Siamba,N.D. (2008), a physical change manifested as coiling is associated with the larvae response to gradual external stress. It was considered as a survival strategy aimed at conserving energy (lipid reserves) and protecting the parasite against molecular damage and ensures survival long enough beyond the span of the stressful period.     The aim of this investigation is to find a correlation between the number of maggots in the mass and the temperature of maggot mass. To find the correlation the different number of maggots in each mass was placed in (the isolated by glass beakers) polystyrene cups. The internal temperature of masses was obtained regularly every 10 minutes during 30 minutes time period under the same temperature of surroundings. The experiment was repeated several times and all results were recorded, averages were calculated and the graph showing the correlation was plotted. The result of the investigation is a positive correlation between the number of maggots in the mass and the temperature of the mass (the more maggots there are in mass the higher is the internal temperature of it). Then maggots were allowed to pupate and the time taken for every mass of maggots to pupate (until all larvae in the mass are pupated) was determined. This allowed us to conclude that the number of maggots in the mass and the development time has a negative correlation (as the number of maggots in mass the less time it takes them to pupate), which proved that the prediction and hypothesis made before the experiment was conducted were right.     In order to understand a little bit about the effects of common household drugs such as nicotine and caffeine on pulsation rate, an experiment was conducted with Lumbriculus Variegattus (Blackworms). In week 1, we observed the basal rate of three different worms, and then placed the same three worms on different concentrations of caffeine and nicotine. “Caffeine is known to act as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain; it promotes sleep and suppresses aurosal, binding to the adenosine neurotransmitter receptor to block its inhibitory action” (CCNY lab manual, 2014).
