Abstract
The purpose of this analysis is to investigate the effect of application of propoxur (a carbamate insecticide) on the American cockroach. From experimental observations, it has been concluded that the amount of propoxur needed to kill 50% of the test subjects (referred to as LD50) was 0.0487(%w/v) which deduces to be 0.22012mg per cockroach (calculated for 0.452grams of cockroach). The conclusions were drawn immobilising the American cockroach with ice then applying propoxur to be incubated at 23 degrees Celsius. Literature findings in the past were sourced and results were compared with the current study.

    Pill Bug Vs Rotten Meat

The results from our experiment does support our hypothesis. When comparing and viewing the data of the amount of pullets that were recording, pill bugs preferred rotten fruit to rotten meat. The accuracy of our data was based upon the amount of times the treatment was repeated and the amount of Pill bugs that died. Pill bugs cannot live in a cold environment because they will freeze. Due to the irregular climate in the North country, that would be a factor that could not have been controlled and would be one of the variables that caused the pill bugs to die. If this experiment was replicated, a controlled climate and a longer testing period would help produce more stable results.…

Pesticides, particularly insecticides, are often blamed for pollinator and bee losses. With packaging usually stating that it so with “Dangerous to bees” written on many to be found on the UK market. Before a pesticide or insecticide is permitted for use they go through a rigourous research and approval procedure. This includes the pesticides’ effects on some beneficial insects and the environment. How the chemicals effect the honeybees has to be assessed both inside the hives and outside while bees are foraging for nectar and pollen. However certain concern has been raised about some neonicotinoid insecticides (clothianidin, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam).…

Fumigants are a unique and particularly valuable group of pesticides that can kill insects where no other form of control is feasible. To a large extent they are irreplaceable. The use of certain fumigants has been restricted in some countries because of suspected adverse effects. Excessive use of fumigants or the misuse of them to cause accidents and produce adverse publicity is likely to bring about even greater restrictions in their use.…
