Is It Better To Study Alone Or In A Group
Is it better to study alone or in a group? What is your view?
Studying is an integral part of our lives. Before and during an examination period, clusters of student are seen studying in fast food outlets, the airport or the various libraries around Singapore. I am sure these students have their reason why they choose to study in a group. However, as for me I prefer studying alone for the following reasons.
The first and important reason why I prefer studying alone is that I am alert to the surrounding, hence very easily distracted. When studying with a group of friends, the soft whispers and giggle, the sound of a pen dropping and the sight of someone walking past will take my eyes off my book. If I am studying alone, locked in my room without the tiny distractions, I can have a more productive study session.
Another reason why I prefer to study by myself is that I can study at my own pace. In a group, when my friends are well ahead of me, I feel the need to catch up. Giving me the added pressure and anxiety, these can sometimes be bad. On the hind side, when I see my friends who are slower, I tend to slack and relax. Therefore, studying by myself at my own pace allows me to have a productive revision well before the crucial examination.
Last but not least, I like to study alone in the comfort of my own home, hence not having to waste time by travelling to places. Studying in a group often means that we need to decide on the place we will meet, find available seats for all of us, settle down and start revision. It is so time-consuming. I would be done with two chapters if I studied alone. Studying at home also gives me the benefit of taking power breaks when I get tired. I get to stretch and make myself something which can quickly boost my energy level, a cup of coffee or Milo for instance.
However, there are as many, if not more, advantages of studying in a group. For examples, when I am in doubt, I can clarify and check with friends who are better at that

My overall study method: My study method is usually an early morning one. My mind is fresh and ready to learn in the morning and I usually don't have classes. It is impossible to do well if I cram it all in last minute. I tried that strategy once, not well!…

I must stop giving into peer pressure and spend more time on my school work like I know I should be doing. To create the ideal study environment, I need to go to the library or somewhere quiet and well lit away from distractions in order to study. While your studies need your full attention, one must also be comfortable in order to be able to concentrate on the material. It helps me to create mind maps, flash cards or other visuals to help me retain the information. I must find an open time slot so that I can shut off my phone so that I can clear my mind of everything but the study material. Always studying in the same place helps us to remember the…

There are many factors that can have an influence on my learning. One of them is my friends. My friends can influence my learning by distracting me during lessons and also by helping me to catch up on work. In some ways, friends can motivate me because they encourage me to do my work and to get my assignments done on time. They also motivate me because they assist me with my work when I need it instead of waiting to ask a tutor which cannot be done as easily; I can easily call a friend. Friends have a positive influence on me because they are aware of the things that I am doing so that they know what I should be working on, mainly because my friends are all doing the same course as me. A negative affect that they have on my learning is sometimes we spend a whole lesson going off topic and talking about what happened on our weekends which is something that can be discussed on the lunch breaks rather than the all important lessons.…
