Introduction to Psychology Worksheet
Part I: Origins of Psychology
Within the discipline of psychology, there are several perspectives used to describe, predict, and explain human behavior. The major perspectives in modern psychology identified in the text are neuroscience, cognitive, behavioral, humanistic, and psychodynamic. Describe these major psychological perspectives using two to three sentences each. Type your response in the space below.
Neuroscience focuses on the interdisciplinary scientific study of the structural, molecular, physiologic, behavioral, and cognitive aspects of the nervous system and brain.
Cognitive is the mental process of having knowledge and adding aspects such as, awareness, perception, reasoning, and judgment. It’s also to be known, as through knowledge, perception, intuition, and reasoning.
Behavioral is how a person acts around others. It also incorporates their patterns or lifestyles of life and how they see things and interact with them.
Humanistic emphasizes the study of the whole person and the behavior and perception of the world around them. Watcher is not a product of the environment and is directed internally to fulfill their potential.
Psychodynamic has all the different theories in psychology that see human functioning what is based on the interaction of forces and drives inside a person, usually unconscious, and between the different parts of the personality.
Part II: Research Methods
Provide a brief overview of research methods used by psychologists. Include strengths and weaknesses of each method. Type your response in the space below.
Experimental research is a very popular one. Psychologists use a controlled environment to study their experiments and view research properly. They can use double blind studies or even placebos in their research to cause different variables.
Part III: Ethics in Research
Describe one ethical issue related to research. Why is informed consent necessary for ethical research?
An ethical issue that can arise is if it affects the patient in a negative why psychologically. Some studies can harm ones thoughts and cause them to think negatively in sometimes a permanent way. One way that it can be avoided is by making sure the patient is debriefed as soon as the experiment is over and offer them aftercare counseling if needed.
