Intervention Technique for Slow And Non reader
INTRODUCTION

Grade I is the beginning of the formal schooling of a child’s life, therefore careful consideration and preparation is needed in order to have a strong foundation of his/her learning skills especially in the aspect of reading. The reading program and interventions are very much necessary to the reading comprehension skills of reading materials on the printed page will be successful.

In this regard being a grade I teacher who is concerned for the development of my pupils, I was discovered the following Intervention Programs for “Slow and Non Readers”
Which I believed could make a difference in their comprehension skills and reading abilities.

I hope that my humble efforts and noble cause will be put into practice by the other and will have considerable results to my objective which is to teach effectively to my pupils. And God who is source of all knowledge will take care of the rest. Here are some of my Intervention Program Techniques:

1. DEAR Technique – “ Drop everything And Read”
2. MARY ANN Technique – Make A Reader Young and Old, Not a Non-Reader”
3. MA’AM & MOM Technique
4. Picture/Consonant +A Sound Technique
5. My Seatmate, My Tutor

“Intervention Program Technique for Slow & Non-Readers”

DEAR Technique – “Drop everything And Read” In 10-15 minutes time within the span of the class schedule, all pupils should drop everything whatever they do or work, they will read.

MARY ANN Technique – “Make A Reader Young and Old, Not a Non-Reader”

I do this technique 15 minutes before going home. As I gave exercises to those pupils who are readers, I gathered all NR, syllabic and phrases readers and teach them to read. I used pictures and consonant + A sounds. Afterwards, I gave the computerized reading materials for them to read at home. For follow up their MOM Technique.

MA’AM & MOM Technique

A technique wherein there is a consultation between the mother (Mom) and the teacher (Ma’am). After school hours the parents are responsible for the reading ability of their kids.

Picture/Consonant + Vowel Sound Technique

I showed them 2 pictures. The first picture starts or begins with the consonant and the second picture begins with a vowel sound. We form each letters to make it syllable and words.

My Friend, My Tutor

The fast reader friends are assigned to teach or share their knowledge in reading to the non-readers or to their slow readers’ friend during their free time.
